BACK COVER COPY:

Romance is the last thing on reporter Skylar Shaw's mind when she covers a plane crash on a Florida beach. Her best source could be a mysterious Italian man, but he's strictly off the record—unless it involves indulging their electrifying attraction to each other. Little does Skylar know, but that crash is only the beginning.

Luca Rossi is hiding a big secret: He's a journalist, too, and his anonymous exposé on the Mafia destroyed his world. Now, after two lonely years on the run, he will do anything to possess this vulnerable American beauty. But Skylar is as relentless as the Florida glare, and the situation ignites when she reports on a gruesome murder in a swamp. Soon erotic nights will bleed into dangerous days, and nowhere will be safe from the heat.

REVIEW:

In Hot Shade we meet Luca Rossi and Skylar Shaw.  Skylar is a recent graduate with her first job out of college working for The Palmira Post in Palmira Florida, she moved here from Boston after college to live in her Grandmothers condo that she inherited after she passed away.

Luca Rossi is an award winning journalist from Italy, unknown to anyone especially Skylar when they meet.  He is in hiding from a story he broke, then wrote a book on of the Mafia in Italy.  He wrote the book anonymously but somehow the crime family found out and killed his parents, he has since been in hiding.  Now he is living in Palmira at his uncles condo in a quiet town.  Believing he staying under the radar when out of no where he is sitting on his terrace and witnesses a horrific plane crash.  He runs down to the beach to help the man who was hit by the crashing plane.

Skylar is sent to report on the plane crash and is told about a good Samaritan who helped save the victims life.  As she is searching the grounds she sees a gate leading to a condo division and breaks through to see if any of the occupants are the good Samaritan or if they can give her any information of what they saw for her story.  As soon as Luca sees her breaking through the gate he is annoyed because the security should be better but when he goes to confront her and sees her he warms up because she is beautiful and she is nice and is everything he was in a journalist when he was working on stories.

There is an instant attraction but Luca does not want to get close to anyone due to the way his life is going right now and Skylar's ex tore her self worth down piece by piece and she is second guessing herself at every turn as their friendship/relationship starts to develop.

This story is about friendship, love along with some very hot scenes, suspense, organized crime, murder and family.  It is a great book that I would certainly talk about and refer, I do believe it started off a little slow which with a plane crash in the first chapter you wouldn't expect but I felt it was a little dragging in the beginning but once the story really got started who wouldn't  love a wonderful respectful sexy man and a sassy, smart, classy heroine.  In the end I have to take a 1/2 star away due to the start of the story but this book was well worth it in the end, 4.5 stars.

The author is a nationally known journalist and will be a featured author at the Times Festival of Reading in St. Petersburg, FL at the end of October.
