S & W Book Cover front Sometimes the best things in life come from the unexpected. So if you lower your expectations, then you’ll never be disappointed. Sound cheesy? It is, but it's also true. Clichés come from a grain of truth…like a man with a Porsche is compensating for something, or once a cheater always a cheater—you get the idea. Sorry, I digress. I'm supposed to be telling you what this book is about. I'm Megan Walker, a lawyer at one of the hottest boutique law firms in Atlanta. I'm on the fast track to making partner and have my entire life planned out...or I did. We all know how that goes, right? Best laid plans and all that. Life just threw me a couple curveballs, so I've set out to take things into my own hands. By throwing caution to the wind and getting out of my A-type personality bubble, I'm learning more about myself than I have in my twenty-seven years. Sound like a chick flick, doesn't it? It’s not.

“I believe in fire and magic.”

Sunshine and Whiskey is not your ordinary RL Griffin book, which is normally full of suspense, drama, hearts dropping and lots of angst. It is the complete opposite actually, you won’t even believe that she wrote it. S&W is a fun read that will have you laughing your ass off from the moment you pick the book up till the very end. It’s kind of scary. I kept thinking there was going to be a moment a bomb was going to drop and her usual writing was going to take over, but it never did. And I’m glad. You will definitely enjoy the journey Megan and Laura both go on, it will be hard for you to keep up with their antics. RL writes it as if it you are going along with them, which I love. This is so far one of my favorite books this year.

“Sometimes you need family to remind you who you were before life got in the way.”

Megan Walker had her life pretty much had the life she wanted in New York. She was in love the perfect guy, she loved practicing law, and she had her best friend in a city she loves. What more could she ask for? One day it all changed and she found herself starting a new life, in Atlanta, near her family and away from all her friends. She is a successful lawyer determined to make her way to the top and make partner in a firm full of all males. She is damn good at her job and highly respected by everyone. Megan has completely dedicated all her extra time and weekends to work just to achieve her goal. She has a close relationship with her sister, her husband and her nephew, but not so much her parents. However, life throws you another curveball your way what do you do? Go on a road trip with your best friend of course!

“You are the chocolate to my peanut butter.” “The salt to my caramel,” she adds “The silicone lube to my butt plug.”

I fell in love with Megan from the get go. She’s got that “I don’t give a fuck attitude” that we all should have. She pretty much does what she wants, when she wants to do it. She also tells you how it is even when you don’t want to hear it.  She’s also strong, determined, and driven. But she has the biggest heart there is. Before she leaves, she makes sure her family is taken care of, even though she doesn’t need to.

“Sometimes you have to do things that scare you. It is our duty as your best friend to push you into that abyss.”

Coincidently, Laura, the BFF gets laid off from her job so they decide to go on a road trip across the US. You will get to know Megan, and this is totally not her style. She is a complete planner. She doesn’t know how to be spontaneous, so this trip will be a first for her.  They visit several states they haven’t visited before and they attend concerts while they are there.

“I can’t be distracted by sparkly things like dicks that I know will make me fall apart many times a night.”

Imagine going on a road trip with your best friend. That’s pretty much what you will be experiencing in this book, probably a lot worse though. I love the relationship between Megan and Laura. They’re more sisters than they are friends. They cuss at each other, bicker back and forth, make fun of each other but you know at the end of if its, it’s all said out of love. The stuff they say to each other, man I swear will have you laughing so hard… Some parts I was like..did she really just say that?? haha

“You need to fuck through it.”

You can’t predict anything that will happened on this journey. You think you know, but really you don’t. RL is really good with playing with your mind. Two best friends run away with no time frame in mind, just roaming the world. Some experiences you wish you can unread, some will ruin you forever. This book is about them finding themselves, kind of like soul searching. You will learn to appreciate the friendships you have in your life, also the family you left behind.  There will be guys, lots of guys. Oh yah. You can predict who they end up with, but then you will probably be wrong in the end, so feel free to take some guesses. There will be some heartbreak, and some life lessons to go with them. New friends will be made and friendships will be tested. They will have to go through many obstacles throughout this trip. Some they will conquer together some, they will have to learn how to deal with solo. But most of all they will find a place to settle.

“You need to be okay with yourself. Then maybe you’ll find someone you can’t be without.”

I won’t really go much about the details with this book because this is one of those where you need to experience the journey with both Megan and Laura yourself to find out what really happens. It would spoil it for me to give much detail about the book.

“You make me a better person,” “You complete me.”

I absolutely loved this book and each time I’ve read it I still laugh out loud. I still fall in love with the girls and I find new parts that I love each time. This would make a great summer book, while sitting by the pool because you’re probably going to want a drink after reading this book. LOL Fantastic job well done RL!! I can’t wait to see where their next adventure will be. Now get one clicking and start your trip with Megan and Laura!

Sauls - 014 R.L. Griffin published her first book in 2004. After that she focused on practicing law. A few years ago she began writing the By A Thread series, which is out now. Her goal is to keep readers on their toes, whether it's the plot twist or the book itself, her books are outside any box. There is a little bit of grit in most of her books and a ton of cussing. Most books are enjoyed better with a glass of wine, or whiskey, whatever your poison may be. She lives in Atlanta with her husband, kid and dogs. She loves to travel and meet readers.

Under the Mayhaw Tree by Charlotte Boyett-Compo
Genre: Contemporary Romantic Suspense

Keynote:

Living under a cloud of tragedy for which he’s assumed blame, Drew Dunne has known hell for the past sixteen years. Then he meets Allison Bennett. But in the small town of Colquitt, Georgia, evil lurks around every corner and capturing happiness has an incredibly high price.

Synopsis:

SWEET VICTORY
Small-town football star Drew Dunne sacrificed everything for friendship and guilt. He’s spent most of his life unloved and unwanted. A kind touch, a gentle smile, an encouraging word are all wisps of memory from before the accident. For him there is only family, duty, loyalty. And longing. Until he meets Allison.

When Allison Bennett looks in the mirror, she sees a woman whose life has gone from bad to worse. At the mercy of an abusive husband, sweet tenderness is something she can only dream about…until she finds it in the arms of Drew Dunne.

Not every sacrifice is worthwhile, not every promise is worth keeping, and events in a small Georgia town will test this pair to the very depths of their souls, but at the end of the journey is the truth that—if you’re willing to pay the price—true love can conquer all. Drew Dunne will finally be with the woman he loves. Or die trying.

Excerpt:

As she took off her clothes he put his hands behind his head and watched her every movement. Each one was poetry in motion to his way of thinking. To him, she was the most beautiful woman in the world. He loved her so deeply he felt it in his soul. She was everything to him and he wanted to be everything to her. His heart was filled with such peace, his body with such longing, he could barely contain the feelings.

The last piece of clothing she removed was her panties and when she turned to the bed, he whistled in appreciation. As he had at the two motels they’d stayed at on the way to the cabin, he pretended not to notice the healing bruises covering her sweet body.

“Will you get under the covers?” she asked. She sat on the mattress, then stuck her legs under the sheet.

“Hey. You can leave your socks on but you took mine off?” he challenged. “You think that’s fair?”

“I have poor circulation in my feet,” she said. “Believe me. You don’t want my cold toesies rubbing along your calf in the middle of the night.”

“I believe you should pay a toll for being allowed to wear socks to bed when I can’t,” he told her as he joined her under the covers.

“What kind of toll?” she asked.

“The kind that is exacting,” he said. He slid down in the bed—disappearing beneath the covers—and slid on top of her.

ASA by Jay Crownover

Amazon ** Barnes & Noble ** iBooks ** Kobo ** IndieBound ** Other

About ASA:

Jay Crownover’s New York Times and USA Today bestselling Marked Men series continues with the much anticipated story of southern charmer and certified criminal Asa Cross.

Starting over in Denver with a whole new circle of friends and family, Asa Cross struggles with being the man he knows everyone wants him to be and the man he knows he really is. A leopard doesn’t it change its spots and Asa has always been a predator. He doesn’t want to hurt those who love and rely on him, especially one luscious arresting cop who suddenly seems to be interested in him for far more than his penchant for breaking the law. But letting go of old habits is hard, and it’s easy to hit bottom when it’s the place you know best.

Royal Hastings is quickly learning what the bottom looks like after a tragic situation at work threatens not only her career but her partner’s life. As a woman who has only ever had a few real friends she’s trying to muddle through her confusion and devastation all alone. Except she can’t stop thinking about the sexy southern bartender she locked up. Crushing on Asa is the last thing she needs but his allure is too strong to resist. His long criminal record can only hurt her already shaky career and chasing after a guy who has no respect for the law or himself can only end in heartbreak.

A longtime criminal and a cop together just seems so wrong . . . but for Asa and Royal, being wrong together is the only right choice to make.

REVIEW:

Where do I begin. I was not ready to see this series come to an end, I have grown to love all of the Marked Men, including their ladies. It was hard reading ASA knowing that this was the end of this series. But as we know, all good things have to end.  But that isn't always true. Jay would not leave her readers disappointed, we will see some of the characters that have warmed our hearts over the past two years in The Saints of Denver Series.

I thought ending the series with Asa was a fantastic way to go out on top.  We all knew that Asa was going to be a tough character to close this series with. For me, Asa was a tough character to love. He blew into Denver reeking havoc to his sister.  He was the most selfish, unloving character in this series. He ruined people's lives without a second glance. Without an ounce of regret. So when trouble found Asa and left him knocking on heaven's door. We weren't sure sure if GOD was going to open the heavenly gates to Asa. Asa needed time to repent for the sins that he committed. God wasn't ready to take Asa away, so he gave him a second chance at life. A second chance to make things right with his sister.

So when Royal blows into Asa's life when he was least expecting it, he does his damnedest to keep her at arms length. This knock out with a badge was the last thing Asa needed in his life, but Royal wouldn't take no for an answer. She saw good in him, it was just going to take her some time for Asa to see that he changed. People change.

Royal is told time and time again by Asa that he is nothing but trouble, he is no good for her. As much as Asa pushes Royal away, it just makes Royal more determined to get him. Asa struggles with the demons of his past. He struggles everyday with the guilt of what he did to people and what he did to his sister. How can Asa love someone else, when he doesn't love himself?  Was Asa capable of loving someone? Could Asa forgive himself in order to move on with his life? Once Royal is aware of all of Asa's past, would she be able to still love him?

Asa was a person that needed a second chance. He needed to forgive himself in order to move on. He needed to see that he changed, that he was worthy of loving. Everyone makes mistakes, some more than others, but in the end, he found himself on the right path... with the right person, Royal.

Jay ended this series beautifully. It was heartwarming to see that Asa finally sees what others see. He is worthy of their friendships, worthy of their love. I hope that we get a little more of this couple in The Saints of Denver Series. I would love to see them again.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Asa Teaser 2

EXCERPT:

I pulled the Nova to a stop in front of a duplex that had clearly seen better days. It wasn’t a rusted-out trailer in Kentucky, but it might as well have been. I turned off the ignition and sat back in the seat so I could turn to look at Ayden. She was watching me carefully and I could see how frustrated she was with the entire conversation in the way her shoulders were tensed up and the way her hands had curled into tight balls on her lap. It was the way she used to look whenever I got into trouble and she had to do something desperate and drastic to get me out of it. I reached out a hand and put it on top of her fists.
“I died in that hospital, Ayd. There were no angels playing harps. There was no redemption and repentance. I died and it was very clear that I was going to get exactly the kind of fate I had been courting with all the messed-up shit I had been doing to other people. All I could see was every wrong I had ever committed and every bad decision I had ever made exploding all around me. For once I could see how all of that affected you. I was dying, and I knew what was waiting for me on the other side, yet I couldn’t go knowing that was all you were going to have to remember me by. I had to come back and give you something else to hold on to, some kind of good memory to go with the endless miles of bad I laid at your feet. I wanted to have the chance to show you I could be the kind of brother you deserved all along, so no, I didn’t save myself—you saved me. Just like you’ve always done for my entire life.”
I saw her bottom lip tremble until she snapped her teeth around it to keep it still. Her fists unclenched below my palm and she curled her shaking fingers around my hand and her already husky voice rasped with even more emotion when she told me what I think I had needed to hear from her all along.
“I have always been proud that you’re my brother, Asa. Yes, there have been times in the past I would have gladly fed you to the wolves, and it’s no secret that I had to leave home because I didn’t know what to do to help you anymore, but we both made it out alive and are better people for it. I know you’re sorry for the way things went down when we were younger, but I need you to open your eyes and take some credit for the way you have turned it around to make things the way they are now. I’ve long since come to terms with the Asa from my childhood. What I want to do is love the Asa that’s here with me now. You need to let go of those boulders weighted with all the bad things from past that are dragging you down before you get crushed under them.”
It was eerily similar to what Royal had been telling me the deeper and deeper I sank in with her. I don’t think I was ready to let any part of those stones go just yet, but a sexy redhead was slowly and surely eroding bits and pieces of the rock the more and more time I spent with her. By the time she was done, maybe she would be able to carve out something that was worthwhile, something that didn’t eviscerate me to look at.
I leaned over enough that I could kiss Ayden right on the center of her forehead between her midnighteyebrows and I felt her let out a shuddering sigh.
“I’m never going to let you down again, Ayd. That is the one and only thing in the entire world that I can promise and know it’s a promise I will keep.”
We stared at each other for a long and silent moment. The seriousness of the words I had said to her and the fact that I could see that she understood that I really, truly meant them finally worked to absolve me of some of the guilt that seemed to suffocate me whenever I thought about the things she had done to keep me safe.

   Sweet Sinful Nights Teaser 1

 EXCERPT from SWEET SINFUL NIGHTS:

SWEET SINFUL NIGHTS, Book One in a brand new erotic romance series, Sinful Nights! In the high-heat, high-stakes, high-glamour style of the Seductive Nights series...

She turned around and pushed hard on the ladies room door. But she felt his hand around her wrist, and he yanked her back, spinning her in one quick move, so she was chest to chest with him. She felt his breath on her.
“It did work out well for me. I’m also not the same person I was ten years ago,” he said, then did that thing again — that thing where he undressed her with his eyes, where he fucked her completely with his hot, dirty stare. “And you obviously have become a different person too.”
He tugged her, pulled her closer. His heart pounded against her breasts. His hand gripped her lower back.
He felt so good that she didn’t resist because her stupid body was stuck in the past, was living ten years ago when he alone was the one who could help her, who could free her, who could take away all the pain in one touch.
            But he hadn’t, had he?
He’d caused more in his wake.
            In his cruel exit.
She jammed a hand against his chest. His strong, firm chest that she knew intimately. The fucker. “I had reasons. Realreasons. Life and death reasons,” she said in a low hiss.
He shut his eyes briefly, looking pained. He sighed heavily, then somehow his arms were around her, and this time his touch wasn’t sexual. It wasn’t lustful. It was an embrace. From someone who knew nearly everything about her.
“Are you okay? Are you safe?” he asked in a whisper into her hair.
A tear had the audacity to slip out of her eye. To slide down her cheek, and fall onto his shoulder. It was a Pavlovian reaction. Too many tears had fallen on that shoulder.
“Yes,” she said quietly, with a nod. “I am. It’s fine. It’s all fine.”
He pulled back, tucked a hand under her chin, and lifted her face. She was so close to him she could trace the outline of his jaw, could run the pad of her finger over his stubble, his unbearably sexy eight-o-’clock shadow. She could drag her fingernails through his hair, soft, thick strands that simply had belonged between her hands. She could look in his eyes as he moved in her, those deep, soulful eyes that understood her. Somehow, he was rough and gentle, he was charming and fierce, he was funny and dirty. He was the man she’d wanted to spend the rest of her life with.
“Are you sure?” he asked, so much tenderness and worry in his tone.
She gathered herself, and willed that obstinate organ in her chest to stop beating in double time. She informed her traitorous body to stop trembling just from being near him. “Yes. I’m sure.”
He let her go. He tipped his forehead back to the bar. “I should get back out there. They’ll start wondering. See you in a few.”
            And he walked away.
Just like the last time she’d seen him.
She pressed her lips together, and breathed out hard. She pushed open the ladies room door, walked to the sink, dropped her hands onto the cool tile and let out the longest, hardest breath. She hoped to hell this was the only time she’d have to deal with Brent Nichols.
When she was near to him like that, she couldn’t think straight. She could only feel. And that was far too dangerous for her heart.

About SWEET SINFUL NIGHTS:

A sexy, suspenseful new romance novel from Lauren Blakely, author of the New York Times Bestselling Seductive Nights series….

She was the one who got away…

Ten years ago, Brent Nichols let the love of his life slip through his fingers. It’s his greatest regret, especially since she’s all but disappeared. But when the gorgeous and captivating woman walks into his life unexpectedly, he’s determined to win her back. Whatever it takes, he won’t make the same mistake twice.

Easier said than done…

Shannon Paige has hardened her heart to the man she was once engaged to be married to. After the way he left, and after the hell she’s been through with her checkered family, there’s no way she’s letting him into her life again. The problem is, the second she sees him, he’s more handsome and charming than before. And she’s torn between wanting to fight with him and wanting to sleep with him - maybe both. Soon they fall into each other’s arms, consumed with a desire that burns through the years.

But if these two fiery lovers are going to have a real second chance at this kind of intense, passionate, bone-deep love, he’ll have to give her his whole heart, and she’ll have to give up all the secrets from her messy past.
