Until it Fades by K.A. Tucker

“Touching and complex…Tucker unerringly hits all the high notes of romance—the spark, the emotional depth, the mental and physical struggles—while creating a couple who seem perfectly attuned even when they are in conflict.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

SYNOPSIS:

Twenty-four-year-old truck stop waitress and single mother Catherine Wright has simple goals: to give her five-year-old daughter a happy life and to never again be the talk of the town in Balsam, Pennsylvania (population three thousand outside of tourist season).

And then one foggy night, on a lonely road back from another failed date, Catherine saves a man’s life. It isn’t until after the police have arrived that Catherine realizes exactly who it is she has rescued: Brett Madden, hockey icon and media darling.

Catherine has already had her fifteen minutes of fame and the last thing she wants is to have her past dragged back into the spotlight, only this time on a national stage. So she hides her identity. It works. For a time.

But when she finds the man she saved standing on her doorstep, desperate to thank her, all that changes. There’s an immediate connection, and it’s more electric than the bond of two people who endured a traumatic event. It’s something neither of them expected. Something that Catherine isn’t sure she can handle; something she is afraid to trust.

Because how long can an extraordinary man like Brett be interested in an ordinary woman like Catherine...before the spark fades?

REVIEW:

I am a huge fan of K.A. Tucker and she delivers a breathtaking novel every time she publishes. Catherine's story pulled at the strings of my heart.   One moment changed her life forever when she pulled over to help a man who was injured in a car accident.  When she finds out the identity of who he is, she begs her best friend who is the cop on the scene to keep her identity unknown.

Brett Madden wants to know the identity of the person who saved him from the wreckage, so he could show his gratitude. When he discovers who it is, he shows up at her door. There is an immediate connection between the two, one that is indisputable. But will Catherine be able to be in a relationship with Brett, where the world would see her?

This story is a must-read.

REVIEW TOUR~ HAPPILY LETTER AFTER by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward

Title: Happily Letter After
Authors: Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward
Publisher: Montlake
Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance
Release Date: October 20, 2020

BLURB

From New York Times bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward comes a love story about taking chances and the surprises that come with them.

My love story all started with a letter.

Only it wasn’t from the man I’d eventually fall in love with. It was from his daughter. A sweet little girl named Birdie Maxwell who’d written to the magazine that I worked for.

You see, once a year my employer fulfilled a few wishes for readers. Only that column didn’t start up again for months.

So I fulfilled some of her wishes myself. It was harmless…so I thought. Until one day I took things too far.

While anonymously granting yet another of Birdie’s wishes, I got a look at her father. Her devastatingly handsome, single dad father.

I should have stopped playing fairy godmother then. I should have left well enough alone. But I just couldn’t help myself. I had a connection to this girl. One that had me acting irrationally.

Like when I showed up on their doorstep.

                            REVIEW

Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward never fail to amaze me with their writing. I normally wait until I have a free day to start any of the books that this duo releases. I’ve seen the early reviews about this book and I knew I just couldn’t wait. I put all plans aside, neglected my housework and dove right in. And boy am I glad I did. This duo has a way with words that will instantly hook you in from the very beginning. Hook, line and sinker. They definitely toyed with my emotions; I felt them all. Laughter, sadness, heartbreak, love. It’s as if I was Humpty Dumpty, I was put back together again.

Do you ever believe in fate? That things happen for a reason? That people will cross paths because fate had a part in it? Vi and Penelope have done a phenomenal job making me believe.

I absolutely LOVED Happily Letter After and there’s so much I want to say but hard to do without giving away parts of the book. The characters were written in a way where I could personally relate to every single one of them. Sadie hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to men. She is looking for that happy ever after that her parents once had. I love that she won’t settle for just anyone. I find it funny that she kills two birds with one stone with her dates, she gets a date and she gets a new article for her magazine. Her relationship with her father is one that I envy. I wish I can have that type of relationship with mine.

Sadie works at a magazine and receives a Dear Santa letter months prior to Christmas time. Sadie feels instantly connected to Birdie with that first letter. It’s as if that letter transported Sadie back to when she was Birdie’s age. Sadie feels that she should play Santa just this once and grant those wishes she has control over. But of course, once isn't enough and eventually it goes a little too far. Birdie, she is an adorable little thing. She has gone through the loss of her mother and having to adjust to a single father who works extremely hard. She’s tugged at my heart when she writes those Santa letters. Birdie isn’t only looking for wishes for her, but for her father. She isn’t being selfish. At first, I didn’t know how I felt about Sebastian. But this duo slowly made me understand him and fall for him. Sebastian is adjusting to life as a single father, while running a business. He does everything he can to make Birdie happy. Slowly but surely, the real Sebastian came out and swoon. I loved how Sadie not only understands what Birdie is going through, but also Sebastian because she has seen her own father go through the exact situation many years ago. Sadie and Sebastian have that undeniable chemistry that they can’t seem to ignore. They try so hard to fight it, but the passion becomes too strong to deny.

The secondary characters in this story are my favorites. Cairo, the owner of the tiny grocery store Sadie likes to frequent cracks me the heck up. He had me going with his jokes! Devin, Sadie’s best friend is such a hoot. Everyone needs a friend just like her. Markaduke, Birdie’s dog I’m just so happy he was put in there. He is one of the many reasons why Sadie came to meet the Maxwell’s in person.

While reading this book, there were many instances where I tried to predict where the story would go, like how they were connected. I had questions I wanted answers to. In the end, I felt that the characters were connected for a reason. There were a lot of twists and turns and surprises but it all came back full circle. Things happened to them for a reason. It definitely made me want more and not have the story end.

This is an incredible book about loss, healing, moving on and finding love. This one will definitely tugged at my heart and this story will stay with me for a long while. There is a reason why this book is currently ranked number one. Do yourself a favor and get your copy today!

Just One Glance by CA Harms (Oh Tequila Series Book 5)

SYNOPSIS:

The quiet one. Yep, that was me. The brother that rarely said anything and instead, stood back and observed. That is, until too much tequila and very little thought had me swinging my junk around in the middle of a crowded college party. Hell, I even wore tassels in areas tassels should never be placed. Let’s just say, the hashtag #dicksaswinging will follow me around forever. You may have heard it a time or two already.

In my defense, things like that happened all the time because I lived in more of a zoo than an actual fraternity house. It just never happened to me. Suffice to say, I learned my lesson.

Seeing Ruby amidst all the chaos was certainly unexpected and it stopped everything around me. The room suddenly went quiet and everyone else disappeared. She stood out—the timid way she worried her hands and the way she looked around, almost as if she was ready to run away.

As I got to know her, I realized she was nothing like the girls I normally dated. She was quiet, innocent, and sweet. She was the complete opposite of me and if I was a better man, I would walk away. But I’m not and I can’t.

And to think, all it took was Just One Glance and everything changed.

REVIEW by KELLY:

Just one glance is all it took for Jay to fall.

He’s the quiet, unassuming one. He’s been in the background in the past four books but no one can forget “d*%ks-a-swinging”. Too much tequila plus a few tassels made that a memorable night for all. The frat house zoo strikes again. Now it’s his turn. She walks in and everything changes. Ruby isn’t like the other girls he’s dated. She’s quiet, innocent, and sweet and Jay’s smitten.

Ruby knows she needs a change. She isn’t living how she wants. She’s still hurting from the loss of her best friend, her mother and she’s stifled underneath the oppressing thumb of her father. Her good friend Darcy helps her take the steps she needs and that’s when she meets him. Jay. There’s something about him and it takes just once glance to know she wants more.

CA Harms just won’t quit sucking us into the Oh Tequila series. It’s fun, filled with laughs and plenty of heat. This entire series has been fantastic and each book has left me feeling happy. Just another fantastic book!

Always Crew by Tijan (Crew Series Book 3)

SYNOPSIS:

For the longest time, I was Bren Monroe.

I lived in Roussou, California.
I had no parents, no brother, but I had a crew.

Then things started to change.
I never planned for any of it.
I didn’t think I’d fall in love.
I didn’t think I’d have a relationship with my brother again.
I didn’t think that he’d come back.

Now I’m in Cain.
My crew is in college.
They’re growing, going through their own things.
And here I am, figuring out my life.

There’s always hurdles and obstacles to overcome.
That was never my hardship.
That was my regular.
But living? Being content? Being happy?
Those were my challenges now.

Everything was going well…
Until it wasn’t. Again.

A/N: Always Crew is the conclusion of the Crew Series, and a 106k novel.

REVIEW:

Tijan delivered exactly what I wanted to conclude this series. With each turn of the page, I fell in love with this group of friends a little more. Their bond and love for each other speak volumes.

As their lives begin to change, Bren's crew goes off to college. Leaving Bren behind was not an option to Cross. Where he went, Bren went. She may not be attending school, but she would always be by his side. As we all know, Bren is broken and Cross and her crew have always been the glue that held her together.

Bren is sort of lost in life, not sure what she wants to do, or where she fits in anymore. When an opportunity sort of falls in her lap, she takes the job at a bounty hunter's office. Little does she know, it wasn't a coincidence. With her overprotective brother along with Cross and her crew, she always has a family to lean on. But we all know, sometimes Bren doesn't always share everything, she keeps things bottled up inside. With the bond she and Cross share, it is difficult to keep anything from him. Cross is her rock. He keeps her grounded and loves the many sides of Bren, the good and the ugly.

When her father returns to her life after being in prison, Bren doesn't know where he can fit into her life, or even if there is room for him. Their past will always be at the forefront of her mind. Somethings can never be forgiven. The ghost of her past eats at her each and every day until she breaks.

Bren needs to go on this journey on her own in order to heal, but Cross is never far from her side. I LOVE the connection the two of them have. They always know what the other is thinking without ever speaking a single word. One look shared between them and their minds are connected.

Tijan wrapped this series up perfectly. I am sad to see the series end, but I LOVE how she did it. Bren and Cross deserved nothing but a happily ever after, especially after all they've been through.

Rick Prick by Tijan - A Shy Girl Bad Boy Sports Romance

SYNOPSIS:

He walked into school on his first day and owned it.
I guess that's what happens when you're a prick, rich, and you're best friends with the ruling school's king.
Also didn't hurt he's drop dead gorgeous.

That's all fine.
I mean, I have nothing to do with them.
I'm a loner, invisible, and that's how I wanted it to be.

I was even proud of it, until I wasn't.

Until I saw a girl kneel before him.
Until I couldn't look away.
Until he caught me watching.

His name is Blaise Devroe. My name is Aspen Monson.
He only knew how to get, command, and demand attention. I knew how to do everything but that.
And this is our story.

REVIEW:

This book can be read as a complete standalone, however, I would suggest reading the first two books in The Crew Series prior to reading this.  Then once you are done with Rich Prick, read Always Crew. This way, there are no spoilers.

In The Crew Series, we are introduced to Blaise Devroe.  I don't know about you, but I am one who enjoys reading and knowing everyone's back story and how they connect with the group they are being dropped into. But hey, this is just my opinion.

Now let's discuss Rich Prick. This title fits Blaise perfectly. BUT.....  as much as he is a prick, he has a kind, gentle heart when it comes to Aspen. He is VERY protective of her. This story is one where opposites definitely attract.  Aspen is very reserved and prefers to stay out of the spotlight.  She doesn't want anyone to know who her parents are or her brother. After catching Blaise is a compromising situation where he got a happy ending by another girl, Aspen is now on his radar.  How did she never catch his attention before?

When one of the most popular guys in school has his eye set on you, it becomes a little difficult to stay under the radar.

Blaise was not expecting to have the connection he did with Aspen. Aspen is one who enjoys solitude, being by herself, but when Blaise forces himself into her life, she realizes how much she thrives for their connection.

I love how Tijan pulls in characters from other books because somehow they are connected on some level. Whether it be they are family or simply friends.

Be sure to pick you this book. It's one you will enjoy. I love having the badass boyfriend kick everyone else's ass, but be a softy for his girl.

SYNOPSIS:

Teagan Berkeley is trying her best. A single mom raising a precocious teen, she may have given up on her dreams, but she's accepted her life in her small beachside hometown. Now the one person who abandoned her when she needed him the most has returned, bringing back memories of what might have been.

Derek Hartz arrives in town with a teenage daughter-and he's full of guilt over his failed marriage and the way he ended his friendship with Teagan. He's determined to set things right with her, but first he needs to gain her trust, something he's not convinced he deserves.

As Teagan and Derek open up to each other-and confess their deepest secrets-it's impossible for them to deny what's always been between them. But just when their happily ever after is within reach, their complicated history surfaces again and threatens to keep them apart. Forever.

REVIEW:

All I Ask was a heartbreakingly beautiful story about two best friends afraid to voice their feelings for each other.

Teagan and Derek grew up together, shared all their moments with each other. Teagan was in love with Derek but the timing never seemed to work. Either she was in a relationship or he was. Teagan finds herself in a dilemma and ends up pregnant and standing as Derek's man of honor at his wedding. What do you do when the love of your life is marrying someone else? Do you stand by and keep your feelings to yourself? Do you finally get the courage to speak up and tell him, or do you stand in silence and watch the love of your life walk down the aisle with someone who isn't you?

When Derek is giving an ultimatum, it's either Teagan or his wife, Derek sacrificed his friendship with Teagan. Years pass and neither of them speaks to each other. Teagan is none the wiser to the decision Derek was forced to make. Years pass and Teagan wonders what she did to deserve to be deserted by her best friend.

Teagan is a single mom raising her daughter on her own. She isn't living the life she wanted but she is doing the best she can until one day her daughter gets into trouble at school. When she comes face to face with Derek after years of not speaking or seeing him, her world is turned upside down. Derek is back home to help his father out with his veterinary practice. Derek has some explaining to do, but will Teagan be willing to listen? Has too much time passed for Teagan to forgive Derek?

The heart knows what the heart wants, but after years of hurt, can Teagan move on from the past? Will their love for each other be strong enough?

Great And Precious Things by Rebecca Yarros

SYNOPSIS:

How do you define yourself when others have already decided who you are?

Six years ago, when Camden Daniels came back from war without his younger brother, no one in the small town of Alba, Colorado, would forgive him—especially his father. He left, swearing never to return.

But a desperate message from his father brings it all back. The betrayal. The pain. And the need to go home again.

But home is where the one person he still loves is waiting. Willow. The one woman he can never have. Because there are secrets buried in Alba that are best left in the dark.

If only he could tell his heart to stay locked away when she whispers she’s always loved him, and always will…

Great and Precious Things is a heart-wrenching story about family, betrayal, and ultimately how far we're willing to go on behalf of those who need us most.

REVIEW:

I absolutely LOVED this book. It is a current version of Legends of the Falls where we all swooned over Brad Pitt.

Camden never wanted to return to the town he grew up in, but when he is forced to because of his father's health, he is walking into a lion's den. People in this small town blame him for his brother's death during the war, but no one knows the truth of exactly what took place. But we all know how close-minded people can be.

Willow, the girl next door grew up with Camden and his two brothers. They were always together. All three Daniels boys loved Willow.  The problem is, Willow was engaged to Camden's brother who died in combat. Camden has loved Willow for as long as he could remember, but she was his brother's girl. Or she was, or would always be?  This small town is very unforgiving and full of shitty opinions. Will Camden follow his heart and finally tell Willow how he feels? Will the two of them be able to face the whispers of the town?

Rebecca said it best ==> "Great and Precious Things is a heart-wrenching story about family, betrayal, and ultimately how far we're willing to go on behalf of those who need us most."

This story will stay within your heart for a very long time. It is one that I will read over and over again, falling in love with these characters as if it was the first time reading their heartbreaking love story.

The price is a little higher than most may want to pay, but it is well worth the money, so don't be discouraged by the price tag.

I Promise You by Ilsa Madden-Mills

SYNOPSIS:

Dillon McQueen: Babe. I promise. You want me.
Serena Jensen: Um, who are you?

There’s a legend at Waylon University: the first girl you kiss freshman year at the bonfire party is the one you’ll never forget. She’ll crawl under your skin. She’ll spark a passion so fierce you’ll burn the world down to possess her.

You might even put a ring on it.

But...timing is everything. That kiss can go horribly wrong. She might run in the opposite direction. And boy, did Serena run.

Dillon is Waylon’s hotshot quarterback with something to prove. All he wants is to graduate and make it to the NFL. What he doesn’t need is to finally meet the mystery girl he kissed at the bonfire freshman year. Isn’t it enough that she’s haunted his dreams for more than a thousand nights?

Fate laughs in his face when he runs into the plucky girl at the Piggly Wiggly. Surrounded by his entourage, he’s got all of her favorite cookies in his cart; she gets revenge by buying every six-pack of his favorite beer.

Obviously, that legend is a curse. She’s not his type and hates him. Worst of all, how can she not remember him when she left a Serena-shaped hole in his heart for the past three years?

So why can’t he stop trying to win her?

Will this quarterback score the girl or make the biggest fumble of his life?

Author’s Note: I Promise You is a complete stand-alone college sports romance. Expect hot football jocks, strong women with pluck, a tell-it-like-it-is Nana, deep feels, fun banter, and a sigh-worthy happy ending. No cheating or cliff-hangers.

REVIEW by Kelly:

Ilsa knows how to capture perfection in college romance. This is just one more book in her arsenal that will wrap you up, give you all the feels and spit you out feeling completed.

We met Dillon in previous books about these Waylon football stars. He was a backup quarterback and now it’s his year and his time to shine. We knew him as cocky and as a playboy, a fun-time guy. Now we get to peel the layers back and see what lies underneath. Don’t we all wear a shell? A persona we put on for others we don’t let get close? Dillon is hurting. He’s suffered pain, loss and now is under the pressure to perform, to be the best QB1. He has a younger guy nipping at his heels. He’s already been second best, pushed to the side, replaced. He’s fighting for what means the most to him. Until she comes back into his life. We all know the legend of the kiss at the freshman bonfire parties. Dillon participated as well but he lost her and gave up searching after awhile. But like the legend says, she’s always been at the back of his mind and in his dreams.  Now, she’s real and he will do anything to capture her heart and give her his, the one that’s been hers all along.

Serena is unique and quirky. She remembers Dillon and that kiss well but it wasn’t the right time for her. She’s two years older and a bit more experienced in life. She’s jaded. She’s driven down the road of love before only to crash and burn and leave her with painful scars. The attraction is intense between them, but what’s, even more, is the awareness they have of the other. She’s not sure if she’s ready or even willing to travel this road again.

It’s a battle for love. There are ups and downs, jealousy, and heat. Insecurity runs rampant. They open up and reveal truths, honest about the pain. Then there’s hurt, no one is perfect. Their time wasn’t right before. Is it now?

I’m left feeling completely blissed out and happy. I love feeling this way and know that opening up one of Ilsa’s books is always the right medicine I need. Fantastic job and a huge 5-star for me!

FLOCK and EXODUS by Kate Stewart (The Ravenhood Duet)

Can you keep a secret?

⁣I grew up sick.⁣

⁣Let me clarify.⁣

⁣I grew up believing that real love stories include a martyr or demand great sacrifice to be worthy.⁣

⁣Because of that, I believed it, because I made myself believe it, and I bred the most masochistic of romantic hearts, which resulted in my illness.⁣

⁣When I lived this story, my own twisted fairy tale, it was unbeknownst to me at the time because I was young and naïve. I gave into temptation and fed the beating beast, which grew thirstier with every slash, every strike, every blow.⁣

⁣Triple Falls wasn’t at all what it seemed, nor were the men that swept me under their wing. But in order to keep them, I had to be in on their secrets.⁣

⁣Secrets that cost us everything to keep.⁣

⁣That’s the novelty of fiction versus reality. You can’t re-live your own love story, because by the time you’ve realized you’re living it, it’s over. At least that was the case for me and the men I trusted my foolish heart to.⁣

⁣Looking back, I’m convinced I willed my story into existence due to my illness.⁣

⁣And all were punished.

Can you live a lie?

It’s a ghost town, this place that haunts me, the one that made me.
It’s clear to me that I’ll never outgrow Triple Falls or outlive the time I spent here.
I can still feel them all, my boys of summer.
Even when I’d sensed the danger, I gave in.
I didn’t heed a single warning. I let my sickness, my love, both rule and ruin me. I played my part, eyes wide open, tempting fate until it delivered.
There was never going to be an escape.
All of us are to blame for what happened. All of us serving our own sentences. We were careless and reckless, thinking our youth made us indestructible, exempt from our sins, and it cost us all.
I’m done pretending I didn’t leave the largest part of me between these hills and valleys, between the sea of trees that hold my secrets.
It’s the reason I’m back. To make peace with my fate.
And if I can’t grieve enough to cure myself in my time here, I’ll remain sick.
That will be my curse.
But it’s time to confess, to myself more so than any other, that I’d hindered my chances because of the way I was built, and because of the men who built me.
At this point, I just want to make peace with who I am, no matter what ending I get.
Because I can no longer live a lie.

REVIEW:

What do you do when you are in love with three men, who all came into your life at different moments and possibly for different reasons. With each turn of the page, I could not wait to discover how Ceceila would handle the cards that she was dealt with.

When I sat down to read Flock, I had no idea what I was in for. This book is AMAZING. I could not wait to see what happened next, and I finished the book in one sitting and didn't fall asleep until the wee hours of the morning. I was thrilled that Exodus was already available and I could pick up right where I left off. The opening scene in Exodus had me craving for more, forcing me to pull another long day and night of reading, so I can finish the book in one sitting.

Ceceila is brazing and stubborn and for those reasons alone, I LOVED her. I routed for her, I craved to be here at some moments. Throughout this book, I laughed out loud and at times I cried for the pain she endured as I felt them deep in my own heart. Ceceila's journey packs a punch and will leave a hole in your heart when you are done. You will crave more yet love how the story wraps up. I tip my hat to Kate Stewart, as her words left me with raw emotions, and stories like these are what drives my desire to read.

This series is one everyone must-read. It's epic and mind-blowing and I will be reading them again in the future.  This duet definitely has a place in my TOP 10 reads of 2020.
