RELEASE DAY LAUNCH - Three Broken Promises by Monica Murphy ~ Review & Giveaway

Three Broken Promises

Synopsis:

Commitment. That’s what I really want from Colin. Ever since my brother, Danny, died in Iraq, Colin’s done so much to help me, including giving me a job at his popular restaurant so I can leave my crappy waitressing job at the strip joint. But lying in bed with him every night to comfort him from his horrible nightmares isn’t enough anymore. I know he feels guilty about Danny’s death, about not going to Iraq, but I can’t keep living this double life.

I love him desperately, but he’s got so many demons, and if he can’t open up to me now, then he’ll never be the real partner I need him to be. I gave him a month, and now I’m out of here. If he truly loves me like he says, he knows where to find me.

Review:

Colin and Jen are both hiding secrets; secret pasts, secret thoughts, secret desires, the list goes on. They’ve become each other’s emotional crutch, both clutching the other closer while simultaneously pushing them away. Colin wants Jen close physically, but he can’t let down his guard to let her in emotionally. Jen is the exact opposite. She decides she can’t be around Colin, if she can never have what she truly wants then she needs to move on with her life. The angst of will they or won’t they is the crux of the story in Three Broken Promises.

Jen announces she’s leaving and moving on to a bigger city. She plays it off as she’s over this small town holding her back. In reality she’s tired of Colin holding her back. Since we’ve met them, Colin has been her biggest support. He has helped provide her with a job and a safe place to live. But what price does Jen pay for his support? How long should she expect to stay silent and accept the crumbs of affection Colin bestows on her? No longer is the answer.

Colin goes into panic mode when Jen makes her big declaration. He comes to the conclusion the best way to show her how much he cares is to let her go. He’ll encourage her and do whatever she’ll allow him to do to help her. (Yeah, it’s obvious, Colin’s a stupid straight man.) Even when Fable tells him exactly what Jen really wants, he can’t see past all of the things he’s done wrong, all of the promises he broke. Three to be exact, that’s how many promises he broke, and they all lead back to Jen.

Both have made their fair share of “mistakes” and are afraid the other will never forgive them. The reality is it’s themselves they need to forgive, not each other. At times watching their struggle was heartbreaking. At other times it was downright frustrating, like the “Who’s on first?” routine.

Is forgiveness or salvation found? Do Colin and Jen find peace with each other? When secrets are revealed, is the judgment too harsh? Which sin is worse? When everything leads back to one event, can they step back and see it was only tragic circumstance, and they need to stop punishing themselves, or do they go on to keep living their version of purgatory?

We get the answers to all of these questions. We find out what they’ve been hiding from each other, or what they think they’ve been hiding. Jen and Colin were equal parts infuriating and annoying. Their behavior kept me reading to find out what happened next. Luckily, Ms. Murphy doesn’t leave us broken apart at the end of the Three Broken Promises. These broken promises couldn’t be fixed, but new promises made can be kept.

EXCERPT:

“You’re going to turn me away yet again, aren’t you?” she asks when I don’t say anything. The irritation in her voice rings clear as her entire body goes tense. “I can’t believe it. I offer myself up to you with no strings attached and you’re trying to figure out how to let me down easy. God, I am such a moron.”

Unable to hold myself back, I rush toward her, angry that she would insult herself. Panicked that she really is going to walk away and I’m going to lose my chance. Thinking too much sucks. I need to just let it happen. Take this opportunity that she’s presenting me.

And let her go when our time is up.

“You’re not a moron,” I murmur, reaching for her. I cup her face in my hands and position her so she has no choice but to meet my gaze. I skim my thumbs across her cheeks, feel her shudder at my touch. “You make an offer like that and a man needs to process it first.”

The unshed tears still glimmer in her eyes and one escapes, leaving a damp trail across her skin. Leaning in, I stop its descent with my lips, tasting the salt, hearing the catch in her breath. “We do this and it’s not going to be some half-assed thing, you know,” I whisper.

She closes her eyes, her tears tangled in her long, thick lashes. “What’s it going to be, then?”

“A discovery.” I nuzzle her nose with my own, breathing in her scent, her very essence. God, I could devour her! It’s taking everything within me to keep calm and not unleash all over her. “An exploration.”

“That sounds like . . . research.” Her breath hitches in her throat when I drop a tender kiss on the tip of her nose.

Chuckling, I shake my head. “It’s the farthest thing from research.” I drift my lips across her cheek, blazing a hot path on her petal-soft skin. “You’re right when you said I don’t do commitment. The closest thing I’ve ever been to commitment is . . . what I share with you.”

She tentatively places her hands on my hips, her fingers curling into the waistband of my jeans. Having her hands on me sends little darts of fire throughout my insides, making me harden in an instant. She has no idea what sort of effect she has on me. How much restraint I’m using at this very moment not to throw her over my shoulder like an oversexed caveman and cart her off to my bedroom.

“But it can be no more than friendship with added . . . benefits.” I lift my head so I can look into her troubled gaze. She doesn’t like what I have to say and I don’t like it either, but I have to be honest. Stringing her along and making her believe this is something more is a mistake.

The two of us together would never work. I’m too damn selfish. I’d disappoint her. I’d hold her back when she needs her freedom. I’m not worthy of her. She’s everything sweet and good in my life, where there’s little sweet and good remaining.

I’ve kept her—and our relationship—as pure as possible even after all of these years. With the realization that she’s leaving me, that we’ll never be together again, I need to take my opportunities where I can.

Jen bites her lip and drops her gaze. “I can handle that.”

Her body language is more than telling me she doesn’t really want to handle that, but I can’t worry about it now.

I want her too damn much.

Kiss Me At Midnight by Diane Alberts
Entangled Publishing - December 2013

BOOK SUMMARY

Her New Year’s resolution was seduction.

Doctor Ashley Hanes has one mission and one mission only—end her annoyingly long dry streak and ring in the New Year with a bang. Literally. When her long lost and oh-so-sexy ex-best friend, Ethan Pierce, shows up as if he hadn’t broken her heart all those years ago, suddenly she doesn’t want to bring home just any man. She wants Ethan.

What should have been one night of blow-your-mind make-up sex quickly turns into another. And another. Before long, Ashley thinks maybe she and Ethan should reunite for good. If only the elusive bachelor will stop running from his tortured past and trust a future in Ashley’s arms.

 Review:

“At midnight. Show me you can maybe love me, too.”~ Ethan
This is a book that you will not want to put down. It’s steamy, hot, emotional, and funny all balled up into one! It a quick read you defiantly want to get your hands on.

Ashley lost her best friend nine years ago, her last year in high school. She can’t remember what she did wrong. They did everything together, they were inseparable. They were just friends and nothing more. Ethan just one day stopped talking to her altogether. She tried to make things right between them, she tried to fix it, but he continued to avoid her.

Ashley had no other choice but to move on with her life, without her best friend. She went away to college to become a doctor, a bright future planned in the city just like she always dreamed. But when a situation occurred, she needed to change her plans and come back home to Rehoboth Beach.

Ethan was that nerdy kid with a stutter that everyone in school picked on. Everyone except Ashley. They pretty much did everything together, that it would seem like they were more than friends. He did like her more than a friend, but didn’t have the courage to tell her how he felt. When he finally did, he saw something that made him turn the other way. It changed their relationship. Since that moment, he couldn’t wait to get out of Rehoboth fast enough. And when he was old enough, he made a life for himself, far away from the place that caused him great torment.

It’s been nine years, but yet Ashley still thinks of Ethan. She still wonders what caused their friendship to end. She hasn’t had the very best track record when it came to men over the years. None of them seemed to interest her. In a slump, her best friend Rhiannon convinces her to go to the bar with her to ring in the New Year. Ashley hears that Ethan is back in town for a few days so she agrees in the hopes she will catch a glimpse of him.

Ethan is back home for the holidays but he is ready to get back to his life in California. Far away from the painful memories of his past and the people that caused them. Even after all these years, he can feel the hurt that everyone has caused. His life in California is different. He is different. No one bullies him around anymore. He has a great job and the weather is beautiful, what more can he ask for? To pass the time, he goes to the bar to try and pick up a girl for the night.

All the girls that he’s been with all these years have resembled one girl in particular. They all meant nothing to him. He doesn’t do commitment. One girl in the bar catches his eye, and he has yet to see her face, but he still approaches her. That’s when he is face to face with none other than Ashley. It was an awkward meeting at first because of how they last left things off, but when they finally reconciled they fell back into their old normal routine.

There is definitely some kind of sexual chemistry going on between the two of them. Ethan does not look like his nerdy old self. He is now looking hot as hell and Ashley can’t seem to take her eyes off of him. While he is thinking thoughts of her he shouldn't be. With both of them having motives of one night stands and the sexual tension floating between the two of them, they decide on one night of no strings attached fun.

Ashley has never done the one night thing, but tonight is the night and Ethan is just the guy to give her what she needs. Ashley is not looking for any type of commitment, so their arrangement fits perfectly. The sex is HOT, wow! They can’t seem to get enough of each other. It’s like the connection between them goes a lot deeper. They’re left craving more of each other when they’re through, it’s like they don’t want it to end. It supposed to be a one night stand, but since they were previously friends, they agree to hang out as just friends. They want more of each other in the bedroom. So since the sex was hot, they agree on a few more times while he is still in town. The more time they spend together, the more they crave one another. The more they want one another. The more they need one another. But it’s all a ticking time bomb. Neither one of them wants a relationship. Neither one of them wants to change. It’s just a matter of time before Ethan needs to hop on that plane and return back to his life in California, leaving Ashley with her life in Rehoboth as if nothing ever happened.
“I liked you back then. I wanted you to stay.”~ Ashely
Will Ethan be able to escape the effects of the past and live a future? Will Ashley be able to convince Ethan that people have changed and they no longer behave the way they did? Can Ashley fully forgive Ethan for the way that he treated her all those years? Can Ethan and Ashley get their act together and admit their feelings for one another? Will this one night be able to turn into something more? Is Ashley worth giving up his life in California for? Will this ruin their friendship again? Or will this bring on something more?

I really liked this book, a lot. My heart broke for Ashley. She had her whole life planned out for herself, when a situation occurred and she needed to changed everything and move back home. It’s like she had no choice and she needed to settle. My heart broke for Ethan even more. He was bullied all through school. He didn’t tell his best friend how he felt about her, and as soon as he could, he left his hometown and made a new life for himself. When he came back home he came back as a completely different person. He was hotter. And boy was the sex hot in the book! Diane outdid herself! I needed to fan myself in some parts. There were some parts though where I wanted to smack Ethan for half the things he said to her. You just don't say some of those things to her. He needed to just man up! But you just can't help but fall for him. Can't wait for more Diane!

Believe.
18+ Contains adult language and content

Believe is a novella in the Wanted series. This is from Brad and Amanda's point of view and gives us a little glimpse into their world.

*SIDE NOTE* This is a Novella in the Wanted series. It doesn't have to be read before the fourth and last book Cherished, but somethings in Cherished will make a bit more sense if you read the novella but it is NOT necessary to read the Novella before you read Cherished. Time wise...the Novella is in-between both books.****

REVIEW:

I think the title of this story is so fitting.  Believe is a Christmas Novella which gives us a glimpse into Brad and Amanda's first Christmas as a family.  Things have not been easy for Brad and Amanda.  Every marriage has bumps in the road, but when Brad developed an addiction to cocaine, he made the biggest mistake of his life.  Brad had missed a good part of his wife's pregnancy with their daughter Maegan.  Amanda believed in their love for one another and they worked things out.

Brad has been sober for over a year and he regrets that the missed out on things with Amanda while she was pregnant. He regrets that he allowed his mother to treat Amanda poorly.  Amanda and Brad haven't seen or spoken to Brad's parents in months.  Brad's parents have never seen their only grandchild.  Can Brad and Amanda find it in their hearts to forgive his mother for what she has done.  Will the Christmas spirit help heal the damage that has been caused?

Brad and Amanda been trying to conceive their second child, but have been unsuccessful.  But we all know what they say.  All we have to do it BELIEVE.  Brad and Amanda believed in their love for one another,  they believed that they could overcome any obstacle that was thrown in their way.  Maybe all they needed was a little Christmas Spirit on their side when it came to conceiving their second child.

We get a peak at how the Wanted Gang spent their Christmas.  I loved how they started a tradition to spend the holidays together.  I enjoyed reading about the little kids, and how the families seem to continue to grow.

It was nice to get to know Brad and Amanda a little more.  The two of them truly deserved to be happy.  Loving someone can be tough, nobody said it was going to easy.  You can only love the one you are with unconditional and believe in each other.

I am looking forward to CHERISHED, but I have to say, I am going to sad to see this series end.  I feel like I am actually friends with this group and I don't want to say good bye to them.

THE EDGE OF ALWAYS by J.A. REDMERSKI (Review)

SYNOPSIS:

Five months ago, Camryn and Andrew, both dealing with personal hardships, met on a Greyhound bus. They fell in love and proved that when two people are meant to be together, fate will find a way to make it happen.

Now, in the highly anticipated sequel to The Edge of Never, Camryn and Andrew are pursuing their love for music and living life to the fullest as they always swore to do. But when tragedy befalls them, their relationship is put to the ultimate test. As Camryn tries to numb her pain, Andrew makes a bold decision: To get their life back on track, they'll set out on another cross-country road trip. Together they find excitement, passion, adventure-and challenges they never could have anticipated.

REVIEW:

I have to say, I wasn't sure what to expect with this book.  I wanted more of Camryn and Andrew's story when I finished reading The Edge of Never.  I wasn't sure if I was going to get it, so when I saw that J.A. Redmerski was releasing The Edge of Always, I was thrilled.  However, once I read the synopsis for this book, I wasn't happy.  I sort of guessed what was going to happen, it was kind of obvious. With that being said, I still wanted to read the book.  I wanted to see where Camryn and Andrew's journey in life would take them.

In The Edge of Always you will see Camryn and Andrew struggle with a tragedy.  Andrew doesn't know what to do to help Camryn.  He walks on egg shells around her, not wanting to say something that may hurt her.  He handles her with kitten gloves, not wanting to physically hurt her.  Camryn is going through the motions, as if everything is fine, when obviously it is not.  Camryn just wants everyone to treat her normal.  She wants everything to go back to the way it was.  We can't change what happens in life, we can only more forward with out future.

Camryn has a moment of weakness and Andrew is there to help her along the way. She is ashamed that she could have been so weak.  Andrew assures her that everyone has a moment of weakness at some point or another.  Everyone Camryn loved either left her or they died.  Her father, her brother, her grandmother.  She doesn't want to lose Andrew.  With Andrew's recent health scare, she feels as if at any given time, Andrew could be taken away from her.

"You're the world to me." I whisper onto her lips. "I hope you never forget that."

"I'll never forget," she whispers back and moves her hips very subtly on my lap.  Then she nudges my lips with her own and says just before kissing me, "But if I ever do, for whatever reason, I hope you'll always find a way to remind me,"

I study her mouth and then her cheeks resting underneath the pads of my thumbs.

"Always," I say and kiss her ravenously.

Andrew knows exactly what Camryn needs to help her heal; what they both need to heal.  He just needs Carmyn to trust him.  When the two of them set out on the road again, would it be the same as it was when they first met.  Were they just trying to re-live the memories they made a few short months ago?

In The Edge of Always, you will fall in love with Andrew all over again. He is such a sweetheart.  He always puts Camryn first, he is so selfless. I love how open Andrew is with Camryn. His love for her is undeniable.

I enjoyed reading how through the years, Camryn and Andrew stayed true to themselves. They followed their hearts and lived their dreams.  Andrew and Camryn never wanted to have what everyone else had. They didn't want their relationship to become complacent.  They wanted to travel the world, never to live in the same place for too long.

If they were to have a family, would their dreams change?  Would they want to have a home, settle down, and raise a family?  Or would they still travel the world?

I really enjoyed this series.  I love the relationship that Andrew and Camryn have together. Their love for each other is unconditional.  Andrew knows that he can not live a life without Camryn.  They are each other's soul mate.  They need each other, like they need air to breathe.  They calm each other, they are each other's light in the dark world that we sometimes live in.

I look forward to seeing if J.A. Redmerski continues with this series.  The way she ends it, she definitely leaves it open to the possibility.
