Untouchable Darkness by Rachel Van Dyken

To love a Dark One is to invite death...

It is wrong to love her.
It is worse to want her.
It is sin to consume her.
I desire all three.

I've been given thirty days to prove my love to another immortal--as a human. Cursed to use nothing but the side of myself I've always despised to win her affection. I am Cassius, the King of the immortals, A Dark One.
And today I tasted fear for the first time.
How can I win her when my human emotions over take every ounce of logic I possess?
A darkness is brewing.
One I cannot stop as a human.
One that Stephanie, my loves visions, have shown, will be my end.
Thirty days ago I was King of the immortals.
Today I know fear.
Today I know how I will die.
By her hand.
The woman I love.

REVIEW:

I am not a huge paranormal fan, however when Rachel released The Dark Ones (Book 1) in this series, I took a chance on it. I figured what the hell. Vamps, Werewolves, Angels, what could this story be about. I am so happy that I gave it a chance. This series has Rachel written all over it. From the character's personalities to their funny sense of humor to the loyal bonds.

You have to read The Dark Ones in order to be able to follow this storyline. In Untouchable Darkness, we get the story of Cassius and Stephanie. I am in love with Cassius. Who would have thought a Dark One had a heart, let a lone be able to love.

Cassius and Stephanie have a bond. They have a past. Only Stephanie doesn't know they have a past. For years, Cassius has protected Stephanie. He even loved her from afar. At the end of The Dark Ones, Stephanie gives Cassius something that will change their relationship forever.  With this gift, Cassius is forced to make decisions. Decisions that will either give him the love of this life, or literally cost him his own life.

Stephanie finds out that everything she thought was real, has been a lie. Her entire existence has been a lie. She is forced to learn how to control her anger, her fears, her love. But what will happen when the one person she has always loved, doesn't know she is in love with him.
"Why did you always walk away from me?"
I licked my lips and leaned in until our mouths almost touched. "Walking away - when all i wanted to do was walk toward you - had to be the hardest thing I've ever done. But everything I did - every decision made - was in order for you to flourish, to survive, to become something great."

What will happen when Cassius makes the ultimate sacrifice and time is against him?  Time is not on Stephanie and Cassius' side. Time is of the essence. Will Cassius be able to win Stephanie's heart before time runs out?
The minute our lips touched, those brief seconds you saved me, touched me, joined with me. For those measly seconds --seconds of living a lifetime of a million lonely seconds - I was complete." ~ Cassius
Untouchable Darkness is a riveting tale of two people who fight through their inner darkness in order to find the strength to love each other. Darkness can either take over their lives, and destroy them or they can follow the light which leads them to each other. Will their love for each other bring them together, or will it tear them apart?  Is Stephanie strong enough to withstand the Darkness? Will her love for Cassius lead her away from it, or will be forever be tempted by the Darkness?

In Untouchable Darkness we get to see our favorite vampire, Ethan and his mate, Genesis, along with our lovable furry werewolf, Mason. Not to mention our sweet and sexy siren, Alex. The bond between this group of friends is what Rachel is known for. She has a way of making us fall in love with her characters, whether they are human or not. There were times throughout this book, that I laughed out loud. There were also times that my heart hurt for Cassius and Stephanie.

Take my word for it, give this paranormal series a try. You will not regret it. Untouchable Darkness is a five star read for me. This review was prepared by Heather. An ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review.
