Irresistibly Yours by Lauren Layne

BLURB:

Meet the men of Oxford magazine! In the first captivating spin-off of Lauren Layne’s Sex, Love & Stiletto series, a not-so-friendly battle of the sexes turns into a scorching office romance.

Hotshot sports editor Cole Sharpe has been freelancing for Oxford for years, so when he hears about a staff position opening up, he figures he’s got the inside track. Then his boss drops a bombshell: Cole has competition. Female competition, in the form of a fresh-faced tomboy who can hang with the dudes—and write circles around them, too. Cole usually likes his women flirty and curvy, but he takes a special interest in his skinny, sassy rival, if only to keep an eye on her. And soon, he can’t take his eyes off her.

Penelope Pope knows all too well that she comes off as just one of the guys. Since she’s learned that wanting more usually leads to disappointment, Penelope’s resigned to sitting on the sidelines when it comes to love. So why does Cole make her want to get back in the game? The man is as arrogant as he is handsome. He probably sees her as nothing more than a barrier to his dream job. But when an unexpected kiss turns into a night of irresistible passion, Penelope has to figure out whether they’re just fooling around—or starting something real.

REVIEW:

This is my first book of Lauren Layne's, I was pleasantly surprised as I went in thinking this would be a lighter read and it was just that.  Reading this book has made me one click a few more of hers and I can't wait to dive into them.

When Cole first sees Penelope, she peeks his interest and that last until he realizes that she is actually his competition for the position he is hoping to acquire at Oxford.  What I LOVED is rather then have these two at each others throats and pinning them against each other just for the angst factor she did quite the opposite she had them working together toward their goals.  I really cannot tell you how much I loved that.  I mean in most books you read you feel like you know exactly what will happen and I never expected that.  It was such a pleasant surprise that I just couldn't put the book down.

Due to some insecurities and misunderstandings they both are under the impression that the other only wants to be friends.  I am a fan of friends to lovers books and while it does work most of the time I have to admit I felt this moved a little too slowly.  Now do not get me wrong I loved their characters and I loved the story and the writing was absolutely great, I just kind of wish the romance happened a bit quicker.

Now when times got hot they got hot and that was a wonderful add to the story.  As I said earlier this was a light read and when it is a lighter read you tend to not have the depth you would in a more gritty/angsty book.  So I feel some feelings could have been delved into a bit more to get better understanding of their mind sets I cannot say enough about the book as a whole.  This will definitely be a re-read for me on a day that I just need fun, laughter and happiness with a little sexy time.

I will definitely be one clicking the next book in the series and continue to be one of Lauren's fans.  This is a 4 star read for me, the only reason for losing the star is really I just thought there could be a little more.
