Crave The Night by Lara Adrian ~ Review

             Crave The Night
By Lara Adrian

Synopsis:

Born and raised to be an emotionless killing machine, Nathan is one of the most lethal Breed vampires in existence. A key member of the Order—an elite group of warriors charged with protecting both mortals and vampires—Nathan executes each mission with flawless precision and a total lack of mercy. Now he must pursue a powerful, hidden enemy. But Nathan’s hard discipline and training are no match for the fierce pull he feels toward a young woman he has no right to desire—a woman of wealth and high social standing who has long been promised to another Breed male, and who may also prove to be the key to rooting out Nathan’s elusive quarry.

Jordana lives a life of glittering privilege as a member of a prominent Breed family in Boston. Surrounded by fine things and fawning admirers, Jordana wants for nothing—until she crosses paths with a dark, intense warrior from the Order and finds herself swept into an impulsive, sizzling kiss that neither of them will forget. As much as she tries to deny her deep feelings for Nathan, Jordana cannot resist the craving to be near him, to break through his forbidding walls and see the man he truly is. But getting close to Nathan will thrust Jordana into a treacherous new world, forcing her to risk all she has and all she knows about herself and her past. And loving this seductive man could be the most dangerous temptation of all.

Review:

I have been waiting on Nathan’s story since we met him in Deeper Than Midnight. Nathan was breed to be an elite killing machine and raised to not show or feel emotion. Weakness was rewarded with tortures we found unimaginable. Even though he was rescued at the age of thirteen, has never forgotten the lessons ingrained in him. He has lived his life in The Order by a strict code of conduct. And privileged breedmates who give unsolicited kisses aren’t in his program…but for some reason he just can’t forget the one who had the audacity to do just that.

I wasn’t sure of what to make of Jordana when we met her. She was obviously from the upper echelon and the actions we saw seemed to come from someone who thinks they are entitled to anything they want. The Jordana from Crave the Night isn’t like that at all. Yes, she is privileged, but doesn’t come across as spoiled. Working with art is her passion and she desperately wishes she could find that passion in her relationship as well. One impulsive kiss has left her shaken and unable to forget the Gen One warrior with the brooding stare.

Nathan and Jordana are a great match for each other. They have their struggles. Nathan is pretty closed off and Jordana is afraid to chance something for someone she is sure won’t want her in the long run. If we weren’t in Nathan’s head, we’d probably think the same thing. No matter what they can’t seem to stay away from each other. Both end up willing to step out of their comfort zones in order to be closer to the one they are falling in love with, even if they don’t know it.

Their story is intermingled with the ongoing social and political upheaval in a world that is still coming to terms with the fact that there are not only aliens and vampires on earth but alien vampires. Then there is also the new threat of war with an unknown enemy of the breed and humans alike looming. The plot is furthered along as usual to be continued in the next book.

Even with the ongoing plot, Nathan and Jordana’s story is standalone. You can read it without having read the others. You might be a little confused on the Breed back story, but you would most likely be able to pick up enough to enjoy the story. You’ll love Nathan and Jordana regardless of anything else. The only thing I’m hoping for is that we get Carys and Rune’s story next.
