There are so many ways to fall in love in today’s world. Besides the usual bars and blind dates, you can meet someone from any part of the world via the computer. The scope is endless. Possibilities abound, if that’s what you want.
But what happens when you aren’t searching for love, and it shows up—way closer than you ever expected?
Two neighbors—strangers— with one thing in common—they share a fence.
But is that the only thing they share?
Nathan Fraser lives a solitary life, never letting anyone get too close. It’s safer that way.
Kourtney Whyte hides from the world and behind her work, too afraid to really live her life to the fullest. Rejection is what she knows best.
But one night, the sound of her soft voice and the tantalizing aroma of her evening meal, prove too enticing for Nathan to ignore.
So begins their unconventional relationship—talking, learning, texting, and gradually opening up to one another, all over the fence.
That is, until the day Nathan braves the high fence to protect Kourtney from her past, and changes everything forever.
Can they move forward together, without the buffer of the fence?
Or will their pasts prove to be too much of a barrier?
In Over the Fence we meet Kourtney aka Chefgirl and Nathan aka Nat. They are new neighbors that meet through an 8+ foot tall fence one night soon after Kourtney moves in. Both have troubled past and soon form a very close friendship through their fence. Kourtney feeds Nate and Nate fixes Kourtney's electronics. As they get closer and closer Nate realizes he wants a lot more from his relationship with Kourtney but he knows she has a very big wall around her, literally. She has very low self esteem and doesn't seem to want to expand their relationship for what seems to him her fear of him actually seeing her.
When it does actually happen it isn't planned and she is mortified but Nate is immediately more drawn to her. He makes it his mission to build up what her family took from her. In his eyes she is perfect and he wants her to see herself through his eyes.
I have struggled with this review, I thought the writing was great, I loved their friendship and the lead up to their love story. I thought it was so refreshing that both were good honest people, and made average livings and lived the average lifestyle. They also were described to be every day normal looking people. There was no billionaire broken man and gorgeous younger virgin. She was curvy and he loved it, he was long and lean and she loved it.
Where my problem comes in is there just needed to be more in areas and a lot less in others. I feel the conflict was either immediately fixed or kind of just ended and then the story kind of was pretty slow in the mid section of the book. I feel that if there were about 30-40 less pages it could have been much more intriguing to keep you interested. I will definitely read more books of Melanie's because as I said the crux of the story and the writing was interesting with some condensing the book could be a whole lot more. Rating 3.5 stars.
