Blurb
He was someone who belonged in my wildest fantasies instead of a rest stop in the middle of Nebraska.

A sexy, cocky, Australian named Chance was the last person I expected to run into on my cross-country drive.

When my car broke down, we made a deal. Next thing I knew, we were traveling together, spending sexually-tense nights in hotels and taking unplanned detours.

My ordinary road trip turned into the adventure of a lifetime. It was all fun and games until things got intense.

I wanted him, but Chance wouldn’t make a move. I thought he wanted me too, but something was holding him back.

I wasn’t supposed to fall for the cocky bastard, especially when I knew we’d be going our separate ways.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Review:

“My gram used to always say, if you want to know the size of a person’s heart, look at how they treat animals or those that can offer them nothing in return.”
WOW…. Hands down, fantastic read! I knew when both Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward were writing a book together that it was going to be an awesome book and after reading it, they did not disappoint. Cocky Bastard did live up to the name. Chance is as cocky as they come. The book is funny as heck, but there are parts where it will tear at your emotions. They do an amazing job making you feel as if you are joining the road trip right with them.
”I don’t know if I’m making the right decision. I’m not even sure if being a lawyer is what I even want anymore. I feel very lost.”
Audrey Bloom was driving cross country to start a new job in California. During one of her stops in Nebraska she spots a motorcycle out in the parking lot. It must be fatigue getting to her or something because she starts fantasizing about herself riding on the back of it with some hot biker god. Who would have known that a bobble head would put her in the path of one of the hottest, but the cockiest men out there? Who just happens to be the owner of said motorcycle? A bobble head of all things?! Call it fate, call it the forces of the Gods, karma, call it whatever you would like, but Cocky hot biker guy, aka, Chance Bateman is also heading to California and Audrey is put into a predicament she can’t seem to get herself out of.
“You turned what started out as a miserable trip into the adventure of a lifetime.”
Audrey and Chance are the most two polar opposite people out there. She’s uptight, yet she denies it every single time and he’s carefree. She’s a lawyer and he’s a retired football player from Australia. He seems so sure of himself, full of confidence, and speaks his mind, while she lacks it all and has to process everything before she speaks. It’s as if it has become his mission on this trip to loosen her up. The connection between the two of them is so instant, you can feel it. They just both met each other, but it seems like they have known each other for so long. Kind of like an instant friendship. Chance has so many sexual innuendos its hilarious and it helps that they have such a playful relationship. You can cut the sexual tension between the two of them, but there’s something holding Chance back. He keeps giving her mixed signals and its driving her crazy. I mean it drove me crazy for her.
“When you get out to California, the change of environment will do you good. You can take your time, look inside yourself and decide what it is you really want, then make a plan to get there. You’re in control of your destiny – except in the next twenty four hours. I’m in control of it for now.” “You’re stuck with me whether you like it or not.”
Aubrey feels lost and can’t see to find her way after all that she has been through. So Chance takes it upon himself to help her find her way. Kind of guiding her. He knows which buttons to push and how far to push them. He wants to get her out of her shell. I love Chance for that. He can tell she’s been hurt and that she’s afraid, so he is slowly trying to get her out there without pushing the boundaries.  And the same goes for her. She knows he is hiding something from her, so she tries to tiptoe around it to see how much information she can get out of him to get to better understand him. The building friendship seems to deepen more and more with the time they spend together. Even more so after almost running over and taking in their “love child.” Aubrey has such a big heart and one of the reasons why Chance needs to stay away from her. But when Audrey takes matters into her own hands, Chance can’t say no and forces him to make the biggest mistake of his life.
“I could feel myself falling for him and that scared me.”“I feel comfortable around you, and that’s rare for me.”“I feel the same about you and I don’t really understand it. I just know I’m really glad that we crossed paths.”“I’m not attracted to you. It’s more like I’m captivated by you.”
When Chance makes the biggest mistake of his life, it may be to late to salvage things for himself. He had no choice to do what he did. Everything in himself wants to make it right, but a lot of time has gone by, he doesn’t know how to fix it. He hurt Aubrey to the core, there may be no turning back. When he realizes that he may be too late he prepares for the fight of his life and puts his everything into getting his life back. Chance will not go down without trying and will fight until the end.
“Sometimes, it takes losing everything to make you realize what you really need.”
Will this be the end for Chance? Did Chance completely mess up his chances with Aubrey? Or will she understand why he did what he did? Will they work it out at the end? Can what they had survive? Will she be able to forgive him? Or will she continue on with her life without him?
“A lot of who I am now is because of you.”
I completely am in love with this book. When I finished it, I didn’t know what to make of it. It completely threw me for a loop. My emotions were out of whack but in a good way.  I just wasn’t expecting to feel that many emotions all in one book. I felt every single one of them, I couldn’t keep up with them. I love the situations that Aubrey and Chance had to go through. And trust me they had to go through a lot.  Who they were on the inside were completely different than who they perceived each other to be on the outside. Once they completely got to know each other, I loved who they were. They were able to get comfortable with one another after just a short amount of time. Just they clicked. This book makes me believe in the ista-love kind of deal and that true love never dies even after time and distance apart.

This review was done by Jenn. I received an advanced copy for my honest review.

Excerpt #1
A knock at the door made me jump.
With a huff, I got out of bed and stood on my tiptoes to look out the peephole.  Why were those things always so high on the door anyway?  I was surprised to find no one standing on the other side.  Maybe I’d imagined it.
Another knock.
I flicked on the lights. The sound wasn’t coming from the entrance door.  It was coming from an interior door I hadn’t even noticed before.
Chance’s door.
I unfastened the top lock and cracked it open just enough so I could see what he wanted.  And there he stood.
Shirtless.
Wearing only dark gray boxer briefs that hugged him like a second skin.
It took a minute to understand what he was doing there, even though he was holding up a toothbrush in question.
“I thought we had established I wasn’t a serial killer already.”
I opened the door wider.
He smiled.
Oh lord.  Stop that.  Right now.
“I must have left my toothpaste in my saddlebag in the car.”
I swallowed hard.  “Uh huh.”
He cocked his head to the side, and his brows dipped in.  “Can I borrow yours?”
“Oh.  Yeah, sure.”
He walked past me and let himself into my bathroom.  I waited at the door.
“You got an awful lot of girly crap in here for one night,” he said with a jumbled mouth full of toothpaste from the bathroom.  “Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia.”
He was reading my Estee Lauder perfume bottle.
I heard him rinse and spit.  Then there was a gargling sound.  He used my mouthwash, too.  Sure, help yourself.
He walked out and flicked off the bathroom light.  “Is tuberose a rose?”
I shook my head, still confused by the whole situation going on.
“That’s why,” he murmured.
“Why what?”
“I couldn’t figure out what you smelled like all day.  Not sure I ever smelled a Tuberose before.”  He shrugged and walked back into his room but not before turning back.  “Even those little black lacy underwear smell like tuberose.”
My eyes bulged.  I’d taken off my bra and panties and left them on the bathroom counter.
“You…you—”
“Relax.  I’m teasing.  Do I look like an underwear sniffer to you?”
Yes.
No.
Maybe?
“Night, Aubrey.” He graced me with a dimple and disappeared.
AH-BREE.  Damn him.
I locked the door and checked it twice, unclear if it was for my safety or his.  His voice saying my name was on audio replay inside my head, getting softer and softer like a soothing lullaby with each breath as I drifted off to dreamland.
Until the knock came again.
