REWIEWS ~ FOREVER RED & OUT OF THE BLUE (BAMA BOYS SERIES) by Carina Adams

Forever Red

Not afraid to speak his mind or make a scene, Nathaniel Kelly has made a name for himself as country music’s ultimate bad boy. Covered in tattoos, singing songs about drugs, drinking and heartache, Nate acts more like an out of control rock star than the grandson of one of the genres most influential and legendary stars. Every man wants to be him. Every woman wants just one night with the hard-rocking country rebel. Except me. I just want to know that the boy I used to love is happy and that I didn’t break his heart in vain. That’s why I buy every magazine that even mentions his name; at least, that’s the story I tell myself. When my friends gave me a birthday present any fan would die for, I was suddenly face-to-face with the man I never thought I’d see again. My body wasn’t supposed to react to him the way it did. And, Nate sure as hell wasn’t supposed to look at me the way he used to. Can someone you loved as a teenager really have a hold on your heart twelve years later? Is it ever too late to say you’re sorry and make up for past wrongs?
I’m about to find out.

Review

When we first start the book, we’re in present tense, Cecelia is given the ultimate present of a lifetime by her friends. They have VIP tickets to meet the famous Nate Kelly. Little do her friends know, she is about to see the man who she walked away from all those years ago for the first time.

Then the book switches over to retell the story of the past..  At this point I’m already glued to the edge of my seat, wondering WTH happened!? How did he react? Was he mad? What did she do? Did she run again? Those were just a few questions swimming through my head when it got cut off and switched over and as I was reading I was trying to figure out what exactly happened between them. What caused the rift to occur between them?

“Neil was the constant light in my dark.”
Cecilia didn’t have the best childhood growing up, but she sure did make the best of it. It was just her and her mother. Most of the times, just herself. Her father and mother didn’t get along so their relationship was kept to a minimum. She focused a lot of her time excelling in school so she can get out of town once she graduates.
“The only future I see has you in it.”
Nate Kelly had the family that loved it and could have whatever they wanted. Their childhoods were completely different, but yet they meshed so well together. Nothing stopped that or got in the way. You could instantly tell they had that connection between the two of them. Starting their relationship first out at friends, they did everything together. They were pretty much inseparable. Nate didn’t let their difference of status affect them. He was always there to protect Lia and keep her safe. He always put her first and he gave her everything. I loved that about him. She couldn’t have asked for anyone else better in her life.
“I felt more for him than I should.”
But one mistake causes their lives to change forever.
“He was a forever kind of guy. I was not a forever kind of girl.”
Lia moved and wiped herself off the face of the earth. Although there is not a day that goes by she has not thought of him. He still holds his heart. Nate has spent years looking for her. She was the love of his life. Every show he had, he would have hope she would be a face in the crowd. Or even a face walking on the streets. One day she would appear back in his life. She was the girl who broke his heart. The girl who still holds a piece of it. She is the one he writes about in his songs. And now that he is in front of him again, he wants answers. Nate will not let her walk away so easily this time around.

Can they find their way back to each other? Will Nate be able to forgive Lia for what she did? Will they have their second chance in love? Or will they find their closure and move on?
I loved the characters in the book. Nate is such a sweetheart, you can’t help but fall for him. You absolutely can tell he truly loves Lia by the way he treats her and puts her first. The connection between the two of them is amazing. The way they look at each other, you can tell they are absolutely in love. Although they were apart for all that time he did whatever he could to find her, he didn’t lose hope that one day he would find her again. And Lia, she was so strong going through everything she went through growing up. To overcome it all.

OUT OF THE BLUE

Putting others needs before his own was all Mike Carson had ever done.

First, it was the friends he loved more than family. Then it was his country. By nineteen, he was a father, a husband and fighting in a war not many people believed in. After an accident ended his career and his life fell apart, he filled his days keeping screaming fans from reaching the most famous country rock star in the world. And, pining after a woman who would never love him.
Then, everything changed.

He thought he could handle anything that was thrown his way. He thought running my security detail would be the easiest job he’d ever had. He thought he’d be able to keep me safe without getting attached.

He was wrong.

They call me reckless, selfish, and slutty. In reality, I’ve just stopped caring what everyone else thinks. I’m determined to have some fun, to live life my way, and to make Mike realize that being a little selfish isn't the worst thing in the world.

I think we both have our work cut out for us.

REVIEW

“When you want something so badly enough, you find a way.”
When I read Forever Red I fell in love with Nate Kelly and thought, “boy it’s going to be hard for her to top him.” We get Mike Carson in Forever Red. They were a threesome growing up, Lia, Nate and Mike. But it was Lia and Mike that go back even farther, before Nate even came into the picture. He was as sweet as ever. You couldn’t help but fall in love with him either. He was always there for Lia when Nate couldn’t be. He always looked out for her. There was a lot of tough situations in this book and Carina did a great job making you feel every single one of the emotions as if you were right there with the characters. This is one book you won’t want to put down once you start.

Reading the epilogue of Forever Red just breaks your heart for Mike. It’s like you just want to wrap your hands around him and give him one big hug. You can’t help but feel bad for him. Then you read the blurb for it and you can’t help but wonder who he will fall for. I racked my brain trying to figure it out.
Mike leaves the tour to get away from Lia and Nate. He thought he could be around the happy couple and not get his feelings get caught up but he was wrong. Mike has been in love with Lia for as long as he can remember, but yet his best friend Nate got to him first making her untouchable. He thought he can be around them being all happy and lovey dovey. He thought he can just be there and do his job. But boy was he wrong. He can’t be around her and not want her. His feelings for her are still strongly there. He needs out.

He hasn’t had any luck with women and his life is spinning out of control.
“I felt like I could tell her anything, even the truths I tried to hide from myself, and Molly wouldn’t judge.”
But when things go down while on tour and Lia is assigned a new task, she goes seeking out Mike. Mike is hauled back on tour to guard Molly Ray, who needs him now more than ever. Molly Ray has been running from a past she doesn’t want to relive. It’s a story not very many people know. But a story that will come to surface and haunt her. It is now Mike’s job to protect her. Mike and Molly spend every single second together. Mike pushes Molly and she pushes him right back. It’s quite comical actually. You can’t help but laugh at their interactions. I think Molly purposely pushes Mike just to see what he will do. They’ve been friends for years, but they’ve never gotten this as close as they have on this tour. They begin to tell one another things and they’ve fully opened up to one another. Mike would have never expected himself to fall for Molly, she is younger than him after all. But as they spend more time together, a part of him is slowly falling for him. I don’t think anyone would have predicted it. But as Molly’s ugly past rears back, so does Mike’s.
“It really was amusing how you could just be living your life, and then one day, completely out of the blue, everything changes.”
Can they both find their way through the ugliness of their pasts? Or will it be the end of them? Will this just be another failed attempt for Mike? Was this just a spark to pass the time they had together? Or was there something real and true between them?

Mike has this tough exterior, but has such a kind heart. He is always putting everyone before himself. I’m glad he finally got his story and he finally has someone to stand by his side. Molly…how can you not like her? She’s feisty, full of spunk and will speak her mind. She had no one but Lia and Nate and when Mike came along he made it his full intent to be her number one. I loved him even more for that. They meshed really well together. And Lia throughout this whole thing was amazing. She always stood by their sides, just like the friend she always was.
