BOOK SUMMARY

This soldier’s the perfect hoax…if she doesn’t fall for him first.

Now Kayla’s en route to her sister’s wedding—without the fictional boyfriend she invented for her family. Fortunately, her plane comes complete with complimentary cocktails and a ridiculously hot ex-marine in the seat beside her. And that’s all it takes for Kayla’s inhibitions to go sailing out the airlock...
Cooper Shillings has soft spot for people in trouble, but he certainly wasn’t expecting to land in it himself—and definitely not while getting naughty mid-air with a sexy southern belle. When he hears Kayla’s predicament, however, he offers his services as a stand-in boyfriend. After all, he’s heading overseas soon...and how could he refuse a little no-strings wickedness?

My Review

Wow, Diane does a fantastic job with another hot and steaming book.

Kayla Moriarty is not one who likes to fly. So when she needs to hop on a flight to attend her younger sister’s wedding, her nerves start to come over her even before she even gets on that plane. Her family is expecting her to show up with her boyfriend. The boyfriend she made up to keep her family satisfied and off her back from the nagging. They seem to be worried about her since her younger sister is getting settled before she is. All she truly wants is to be happy and live the carefree life, focusing on herself. Now she was caught in a predicament. They wanted to meet him this trip and she had no one to show as her boyfriend. She is a genius around numbers and stats but when it came to men, she is a blubbering fool.

Cooper Shilling was not having a very pleasant day when he arrived at the gate to catch his flight. He is an ex-marine going out of the country to do security for a job he got. His father is not too keen on the idea since his father owns security company of his own. Cooper’s fathers idea is for him to take over the company, however, after all that Cooper had gone through in the Marines, he doesn't want to be given a handout; he wants to earn his way to the top.
Kayla and Cooper meet at their gate at the airport while waiting for their flight. Kayla was a bit intimidated by Cooper because next to him, she is just a plain jane and has jittery nerves around him. He is one hot man.  She has no idea why he would even be talking to her. Conversation strikes and they hit it off. It is clear that there is a connection between the two of them. It’s like instant chemistry. Kayla is very nervous about flying but talking to Cooper has her completely distracted about her flight until it is time to go. Having made an instant friend, it’s time to say goodbye and face the music of her family alone.

The nerves start to hit Kayla when she gets to her seat. She absolutely hates flying. Have I mentioned that? And she’s flying alone. The other problem she needs to face is what will she tell her family when she lands alone. Does she tell them the truth? That she doesn’t have a boyfriend and she truly just wants to be alone and isn’t in a rush to have one? Or does she create another lie and say that he wasn’t able to get away? Her thoughts come to a stop when none other than Cooper comes to occupy the seat beside her. Kayla is surprised yet a little happy to see him, she thought she wasn’t going to be able to see him again until they landed and here he is sitting next to him. Her fear is coming back when they start to take off, when he distracts her by kissing her. Man, let me just say his distraction techniques are pretty hot in this book. I had to fan myself several times. I wish all my flights were like what Kayla experienced. It would make for one hell of an interesting trip. There is definitely sexual chemistry between the two of them, no doubt about that.

While up in the air, they’ve come up with one conclusion, Cooper agreed to be her temporary boyfriend. He would go home with her and play the part since he has a few days before he has to go away. It is evident that there is chemistry between the two of them, so it could work, however it could fail as well, but it’s a better idea than what she has so far. They already know a little about each other, they just need to get to know each other a little more and play the lovey dovey part.

When they arrive, they have some time to themselves before they meet her family. They take this time to get their story straight and get know each other and I mean really get to know each other. There is no doubt they are really into each other. Things get really hot. I mean cold shower hot. It’s as if they have known each other for a very long time. They both haven’t had much experience with relationships, but they both seem to be very comfortable with each other. It’s clear that they have much more than just a physical connection. The meeting with the family is flawless; very believable. A little too believable that they are both naturally playing the part. In just a few days, it will all be over and they will part ways, which leaves an unsettling feeling for both of them. This was supposed to be temporary and fun, so why does it seem so hard to grasp that the end is near?
“I don’t know what real love feels like, but if it feels as good as laying in an open field with you, it must be pretty fucking nice.”
Can they make their temporary relationship into a more permanent one? Do they have enough of a connection to make their relationship work? Will Cooper be able to easily walk away and leave what he had with Kayla? Will Kayla give Cooper a reason to stay or will she watch him walk away? Would they be able to make a long distance relationship work between the two of them? Will Cooper give up his job to stay for Kayla?

I really, really enjoyed this book. Diane never seems to let me down and she stepped up her level of hotness with this book. My husband and I met working at the airport so that fact that this book starts off at the airport got me hooked. I loved the fact that no matter how much her feelings started to develop for Cooper, she had it in her head to not hold him back from leaving. She was not going to be the person to hold him back from anything. I have a soft spot for Cooper. He is this ex-Marine dealing with his own issues with a really big heart. He put Kayla first and he always paid close attention to her and her needs. Reading this book also gave me some distraction tips to try while flying with the hubby next. Great job with this book Diane. I can’t wait for more.

I received an ARC for my honest review.

Fake turned Real

Temporarily Yours, my newest release with Entangled Publishing, is a book that has a lot of tropes thrown in. What’s a trope, you ask? It’s the underlying theme that is in a romance books. Examples in this book? Forced proximity, Military, Short-term, and Fake lovers.

My favorite trope out of all of these? Fake lovers. I love watching—and writing—character who start out as people who agree to pretend to love each other, for whatever reason they might have.

Then slowly, oh so slowly, it starts to feel less fake. Maybe they realize it, maybe they don’t. But by the time the black moment comes? It’s too late to stop it. The feelings are there, and they’re real, and they now have to decide what to do.

Do they pretend it isn’t real, and run? Or do they stay and fight for what started out as lies…and turned into so much more?

What are some of your favorite themes in romance books?
