Synopsis
Love believes in second chances. Francis Heller lives with two truths. Love hurts and beauty is only skin deep. With midnight black hair, moss-colored eyes, and traceable curves, Fran is the picture of beauty and confidence...on the outside. But deep down she is tormented. Not just by the jagged scars that line her body, but by the horrible memories that cloud her mind and haunt her dreams. The ones that make her want to flee from herself and from the devastating pain. The ones that cause her to placate herself with sex. Anything to make her forget. But for Fran, there's nowhere to hide from the darkness that swallows her whole.
Matt Dixon is the gorgeous brother of her best friend's fiancée. He's suffered losses of his own and isn't willing to let anyone in until his unexpected encounter with Fran Heller, the girl who challenges him and causes him to take a second look, not only at her, but at his own life. But Matt has scars of his own. Together can they help each other discover that second chances really do exist? That love doesn't have to hurt? Or has the damage they've both suffered cut too deep to ever heal?
**NA/Contemporary Romance with language and mature sexual content.**
REVIEW:
Scarred Beautiful can be read as a stand alone, however we were first introduced to Fran in Love Love. I was a fan of Fran after reading Love Love, so I was excited to know what she was getting her own novel.
Fran is feisty and her she pulls no punches. She says what she means and rarely regrets anything she says. Fran is gorgeous, however she doesn't see herself that way. Fran has scars on her body that remind her everyday of her childhood. Fran is very self conscious of her scars and she doesn't allow anyone to see them, because if she does, then she would have to explain how she got them.
Fran has to go to LA for work and while at the conference, she stumbles upon Matt, the brother of her best friend's fiancée. Matt is very goal oriented and after losing two people that he loved, he submerged himself in work. Matt was going through the motions of life, but really wasn't enjoying it. He thought he had it all. That was until Fran walked into his life. The chemistry between the two is evident. The bantering between the two of them was hysterical.
"You seem... uptight. Like you need to dislodge the stick that's up your ass." She lets out a hearty, and I think, drunken laugh. "I'd give you some help with that, but it's not my thing." ~ Fran
"Did I say anything about wanting to have sex with you, Fran? Because if I wanted to be inside that hot little body of yours, you'd know it." ~ Matt
Fran appears to be confident with herself, but is she really? Is it all a facade? Can Fran let her guard down and allow Matt to know the real Fran? Can Fran trust Matt with her past? Will Fran open up to Matt and explain how she got her scars? Will Fran allow her past to destroy her future?
Matt has scars of his own. Will Matt open his heart to the opportunity of love? Will Fran be able to break down the walls that Matt has built? Can Matt love again? He feels as if he has lost every woman that he has loved. Will he take a chance with Fran? Can the two of them help each other heal?
I LOVED this book. I read Scarred Beautiful in one sitting, as I was captivated with the story line. My heart broke to see Fran struggling with her past. On a brighter note, I enjoyed seeing Matt's friend, Caleb and Fran's friend, Peyton form a relationship. The two of them together was a riot. I am hoping we get to see what the future holds for them as well as Gabby and Brad.
