Sustained (The Legal Briefs #2) by Emma Chase

BLURB:

A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I'm going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal's office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that — that, I know how to do.

Review by CA Borgford

Emma Chase can write a male POV like NO. ONE. ELSE. CAN.

From the very first pages, Jake and Chelsea are a winning combination. Jake swept me off my feet with his charming lines, but he sealed the deal completely with his follow through. The shenanigans throughout are priceless. Six crazy, endearing children are not for the fair-weather man. They can put any amateur through the ringer. Jake proves he’s no amateur. He knows a thing or two about relating to children. Chelsea is a woman you can’t help but love. Her commitment and sweetness shine through.

Sustained really is the complete package— sweet and funny during the day, and adult sexy after dark. The twists and turns keep you on your feet. This path from professed bachelorhood to a happily ever after is not without its trials.

Sustained is outstanding and by far my favorite book from Chase. I have enjoyed all her work, but so many elements of this story and these characters went above and beyond. I can always count on Chase to deliver the goods. Her books keep getting better and better. She really does offer something for all the romantic hearts out there.
