Review ~ NOBODY BUT YOU by Jill Shalvis

From New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis...

SOMETIMES YOU CAN GO HOME AGAIN . . .
After an overseas mission goes wrong, Army Special Forces officer Jacob Kincaid knows where he must go to make things right: back home to the tiny town of Cedar Ridge, Colorado. All he needs to scrub away his painful past is fresh mountain air, a lakeside cabin, and quiet solitude. But what he discovers is a gorgeous woman living on a boat at his dock.

Sophie Marren has nowhere else to go. She's broke, intermittently seasick, and fighting a serious attraction to the brooding, dishy, I'm-too-sexy-for-myself guy who's now claiming her dock. Something about Jacob's dark intensity makes her want to tease-and tempt-him beyond measure. Neither one wants to give any ground . . . until they realize the only true home they have is with each other.

Review by: CA Borgford

Cedar Ridge is the place to be to fall in love. Jacob Kincaid returns home to Cedar Ridge with a clear purpose ~ making things right with his family. He knew it wasn’t going to be easy. What he didn’t expect was the sharp tongued, quick witted Sophie Marren to help ease him back into life at home.

These two are perfect for each other. They melted my heart and made me laugh. Sophie has a heart of gold and the patience of a saint to withstand even half of what life has thrown her way. Jacob oozes all kinds of brooding sex appeal. As the story unfolded, I found what I expected to be a light and fluffy story turning into one with a lot of depth and feeling. With a Jill Shalvis novel, I should have known better. Every detail is tied together and written to convey genuine honesty ~ from the arguments, to explanations to the making up.. I loved all the sibling interaction, Kenna!!! Wow, so fantastic. Once again a top-notch read not to be missed.

The Hurricane by R J Prescott

About this book:

Emily McCarthy is living in fear of a dark and dangerous past. A gifted mathematician, she is little more than a hollow, broken shell, trying desperately to make ends meet long enough to finish her degree.

Through an unlikely friendship with the aging, cantankerous owner of an old boxing gym, Em is thrown into the path of the most dangerous man that she has ever met.

Cormac "the Hurricane" O'Connell is cut, tattooed and dangerous. He is a lethal weapon with no safety and everyone is waiting for the misfire. He's never been knocked out before, but when he meets Em he falls, HARD. Unlike any other girl he's ever met, she doesn't want anything from him. Just being around her makes him want to be a better person.

They are polar opposites who were never meant to find each other, but some things are just worth the fight.

Review by JoJo Belle: This is my first book by this author and I will definitely be reading more from her. Cormac 'Hurricane' O'Connell can come and create a storm in my bedroom any time of the day. Lord that boy is hot...and honorable with it! Poor Emily doesn't really stand a chance with him once he sets his sights on her. Persistence should have Cormac's name right there next to it. Emily's past is a more complicated than Cormacs by far in my opinion so at times I found it a little hard to believe how quickly she became open to his charm but hey...it's a romance novel so lets just go with the flow. Absolutely adored all the characters and they all had something to add. Think I need to get myself down to the local boxing club and see if I can pick me up a damaged bad boy who just needs the loving of a good woman!

Trailer:

Excerpt:

Bright lights blinded from above and gleamed against the stark white floor. I hurtled down the narrow hall, desperate for escape.
With every pounding step, I felt the separation grow. A chasm rending and ripping until I felt myself splitting in two.
Gasping for breath, I stumbled out of the building and into the vacancy of the deep, deep night. Wind gusted, tumbling along the surface of the ground, a stir of agitation at my feet.
Above, the storm raged. Clouds dark and heavy and ominous.
Lightning struck. A crackle of energy shocked through the air. Wrapping me in coils of white-hot agony.
For a moment, I gave into it and let myself feel. I lifted my face to the tormented sky, hands gripping my hair as I screamed.
Screamed in anguish.
Screamed in regret.
Screamed loud enough I would never forget.
A crack of thunder opened the sky.
Rain poured.
My hands fisted at my sides, and I buried the memory of the way he’d felt in my arms, the memory of his face, in the deepest part of me, sealed it off and cemented my heart.
My spirit grasped and wove with the promise I had made him.
I will never fall in love again.
Not ever again.

Not after tonight.

But as attorney-client privilege brings Cam and Grace closer than they ever imagined, the sexual tension heats up. It’s clear before the gavel comes down that the verdict is going to be red hot

REVIEW by Jeanine:

I really loved this story. Cam and Grace were two high school sweethearts that grew apart as time passed. Cam went off to College as did Grace's best friend Sage to leave Grace all alone with really no where to go. She hated her parents and I can see why! She eventually went off to New York to try and get a fresh start but nothing was going right for her.

Grace went through some terrible relationships in the 10 years she was away and another really tragic event. She was left broken. She returned to her home town ten years later and her and Cam quickly became friends again although he wanted way more from her than the "friend" title. Strange things started happening to Grace. Someone was watching her and out to get her. There was an embezzlement case against her right now. With Cam being a lawyer he was assigned the case and knew she didn't do anything so was working
trying to prove her innocence. In Turn he needed to know EVERYTHING that happened with her in the ten years she was away.S he told him a lot, but left out a very important thing that may or may not cost her her life eventually.

I won't give away anymore but so many things happen in this story, so many twist and turns, it really kept me on edge waiting to see what happens next. I loved Cam and Grace's relationship and couldn't get enough of them two! Highly recommend!!!

REVIEW by Heather Mc.

This is the third book to the Unexpected Heroes series by Melody Anne. This is Camden Whitman and Grace Sinclair’s book and their story started many years ago when they were friends as kids turned lovers when Camden came home from College one summer. They were in love but you know how things are when you are young and stupid. Now Grace carries a large grudge against Cam for breaking her heart and she won’t let him in again but he really wants Grace, he knows he messed up but that was years ago and he is ready to settle down. How can he settle down with Grace if she won’t even give him time to speak and help her when she is in some serious need of help. Someone is setting her up and using her as a front for crimes, something he can legally help her with if she would just let him. Cam needs to make her listen and let him help her so she can come out of this ok. Grace finally relents and I mean FINALLY because it is a long time to get to this point and the story really begins. I am a HUGE Melody Anne fan, I love her books, every single one I have read is a minimum 4.5 stars but Grace really made this book hard. She was too angry and too hurt so many years later. I get it she was in love with him forever and he broke her heart but they were older teens, they were not together for a very long time and he was away at college. I really felt her anger was unrealistic for the background of the story. I felt for her, her family was vile but she had great friends and a really good life if she would just live it. She was so stuck on her anger it was very hard to connect with her. Cam was a great guy, he was loyal, lovable and funny and he didn’t give up. He was a great man, brother, son and friend, I couldn’t say one bad thing about him throughout the book. I felt I really could have liked the story more if it didn’t take Grace ½ as long to get to a point of just opening up, not even giving into being with Cam but just not so angry and distant. I really love Melody Anne’s work and I will continue to read all of her books this one just fell short and for that while I hate to do so it is a 3 Star read for me. The epilogue was more geared toward Michaels book and I found that highly intriguing and I feel like I’ll can say with certainty that I will love it, much more than this one.

This is Love by Caroline Nolan

SYNOPSIS:

Rachel Miller had love, life and happiness...until she didn't. Uncertain of how to cope and move on without him, Rachel's life comes to halt as she mourns the loss of her fiance Ben. Then one night she discovers it doesn't have to. By way of dreams, Rachel and Ben continue to live the life they had planned together. It's unconventional, it's not even real, but it's enough for Rachel. For the first time since Ben's death, she's happy...whole. That is until she runs into someone she barely knew from years ago and suddenly real life is just as great as her dream one. Now Rachel doesn't know what to do. Will letting someone new in threaten what she has with Ben? Or will their love story threaten her new happiness? Is it crazy to chase after a ghost while being caught up by someone very real?

REVIEW by Jeanine:

So amazing. I laughed, I cried, I was worried, hopeful... It's such a sad story but so damn beautiful at the same time. I can't imagine losing someone I love let alone my soon to be husband. How the heck do you even move on? If at all? What Rachel goes through in this story is completely heart breaking. Then Jax comes along and let me tell you, he had me from Hello from the very beginning. He was so patient, kind, an amazing friend from the start. He's exactly what Rachel needed. But she thought otherwise and refused to give up her memories of Ben. You guys all have to read what happens because I don't want to spoil anything, but the Epilogue of this book literally had me balling my eyes out!

LOVED this story. It was written perfectly. I fell in love only a few pages in and I want more!!!!! Five stars from me!!! Highly recommend and I will be sharing with all my reader friends :)

Target on Our Backs (Monster in His Eyes Book 3) by JM Darhower

The best way to keep your word is never to give it.

Not long ago, in a chapel in Vegas, I swore to love Karissa for the rest of my days. But nobody's promised an infinite number of tomorrows. Nobody's promised forever. Sometimes, all we have left is today.

Carpe Diem.
Seize the day.

It should've been over, we should've been happy, but people are making it hard for me to live in peace. I've got so much blood on my hands they'll never be clean, and somebody out there seems to want me to pay for it. Happily Ever After always comes at a cost, one any real man would be willing to pay. But that doesn't mean I'm just going to roll over and accept these consequences.

Because when it comes to the woman I love? The life I've fought for?

Nobody is safe.

REVIEW:

JM Darhower writes mafia stories like no other. I am obsessed with her writing. She is AMAZING.  If you have not read this series, you have no idea what you are missing out on. The Monster in His Eyes Series is EPIC. With each turn of the page, you are on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. White knuckles gripping your reading device because you NEED to know what will come next.

Ignazio (Naz) Vitale is not a good man. Ignazio is a tortured soul. Yes, he has sinned. Yes he has done some horrific things in his lifetime. He never set out to fall in love again. Karissa was his target. An eye for an eye. Naz never meant to care for Karissa. He certainly never meant to fall in love with her.

Karissa and Naz have been through a lot. Karissa has managed to forgive Naz for things that he has done and as much as Naz tell her he is not a good man, Karissa vows to see him in a different light. Karissa is not naive. She knows what Naz is capable of. She knows what haunts him in his dreams, what keeps him awake at night. Despite Naz's past, Karissa still loves him and knows that he can be a good man. That there is still good within him, despite seeing the monster in his eyes sometimes.

When Karissa's life is in danger, Naz struggles internally. The monster within in still lives, and it will rear it's ugly head if need be. There are targets on Naz and Karissa's backs as a result of decisions Naz has made. He vows to protect what's his, and he will stop at nothing to protect Karissa.

As we all know, Naz walked away from the "business". But it is ever that easy? Can he just walk away and think that he and Karissa can walk away in the sunset? Things are never that easy. People want Ignazio. He is the best at what he does. But when he declines offers to work for some people, it creates a target on his back. Everyone has a weakness, and people know the one weakness Ignazio has... KARISSA.

Sometimes we think people are our friends, but in Ignazio's line of work, he has no friends. He trusts no one. So when push comes to shove and Karissa's life is once again in danger, can he trust anyone to help him, or will be have to go at this alone.

Target on Our Backs is the third book in this series. I was shocked to see that this was even being released as there was no talk on social media about it, until JM Darhower was like, hey, look at this new cover. Then BAM, I almost fell off my chair. I never want this series to end.

As much as I know that Ignazio is a dangerous man. I, like Karissa, see the good within him. It may be hard to accept the things that he has done, but he isn;t the monster he portrays himself to be. I agree with Karissa, there is definitely a good man beneath that monster that he is portrayed to be.

This was a 5 star read for me. This review was prepared by Heather. An ARC was received in exchange for an honest review and I also purchased a copy on release day.

REVIEW by Heather Mc:

I was given and ARC in exchange for an honest review. In ICE we meet an array of new characters which all have great promise for one hell of a series if the authors chose to go that direction. However, in this novel’s main characters are Captain Jade Elliott and Commander Kaleb Maverick. Captain Jade Elliott joined the United States Army as it was her lifelong dream. She has spent her entire career working her ass off to get where she is and she was one of the first women to graduate from Army Ranger School. She has worked her ass off to be one of the team and be treated like and equal among a world of men. She has proven herself time and again and her men would stand next to her and battle for her just as she would them. She has been called for a secret mission and she has no idea that her life is surely about to change drastically and she also runs the risk of losing everything she has worked so hard for. Kaleb Maverick has been called in by the Army to handle a secret mission and he personally chose his team through files and recommendations but he has done all of his homework. What he never expected was to see a picture of one woman and his world to change. What he didn’t expect was to become obsessed with her. What he didn’t expect was the spitfire she would be. His mission will get done but he also has a second mission and that is to get the girl. He has never failed and he doesn’t plan on it now. Little does he know this may be the hardest mission of his life. I was completely torn on this as I was reading the book. See as I was reading I was thinking man this is going kind of slower than I expected for a book of this size. Than I am looking and looking and seeing myself nearing the end with so many questions and such anxiety of what would happen then the book ended and I realized this is not a stand-alone. I didn’t get from the description that this was a series, I do see it says (1) but honestly I did think it was a series with different characters in each book. So when I know this at the end my whole perception changes.

I have to say that I LOVED the book, I loved the action, I loved the story line, I loved the characters even when I wanted to slap them upside their heads. I have never read Kathy Coopmans' books but I have read Hilary’s and I love her, she can right just the way I love to read. There is a perfect amount of angst, love, hotness, gentleness she is just a master at the perfect blend and we got that in ICE, I will say there was A LOT of HOT. It was surprising at how quickly it got hot and Jade and Kaleb’s chemistry is undeniable from page one. But at the end the gentleness and the love takes over. I will say I am counting down the days to get the next book. I really, really hope it is the conclusion of their story because I just need to know, it was that good.

So while I did have the complaint of the cliffhanger, which I will admit from start that I hate them if I don’t have the whole series. I am that person who buys the book and if I know it is a cliffy I just wait for the next and buy that and not read the series til it is done. If I read one like I have ICE it is killing me to wait but I am super excited to know I just have about 6 weeks for the next to know what happens. Absolute 5 star read for me.
