Synopsis:

What do you do when a sexy, older man moves into your family’s summer rental? Well, apparently, you make a fool of yourself—over and over. I knew he was just passing through town for the summer. I knew he was probably too old for me. Yet, I was drawn to him. Not to mention, he tried to save my life when he mistakenly thought I was drowning. I wanted him and made no secret of it. His own attempts to warn me away soon gave way to late-night moonlight chats by the lake. We were slowly easing into a friendship that was gearing up to explode into something I might not recover from. Because he’s leaving at the end of the summer. And I have no idea what I’ll do when August ends.

Review:

The book started a bit on the slower side for me, but I was so invested in the storyline I knew I had to push through. I don’t recall where, but there was a turning point in the writing/story that picked up I couldn’t then put it down.

I absolutely loved Heather’s character. So strong, resilient, her optimism and her positivity. She will take anything that comes her way and will make do of it. She can be at her worst and still see the bright side. For such a young girl, she has so many responsibilities and bears so much weight on her shoulders. There were so many times where I wanted to just give her a big hug. She doesn’t have many family or friends but I’m glad that those select that she does have is always there for her. Heather's life hasn’t always been easy, but she takes it all in stride.

Noah... sweet sweet Noah. He has definitely is running away from something. That is definitely clear. And Heather called him out on it from the beginning. I knew he had an ulterior motive to renting the boathouse but I never would have guessed what it would be. When we find out exactly what it is, it becomes a definite shocker. He comes off as an asshole who wants to be left alone but Heather takes no part in that. She pushes him while he pulls away every chance he can. I loved how I was able to see Noah grow a soft side for heather. He realized how much she does on her own and takes it upon himself to help her. He has become that go to guy. He’s got the hard exterior and that asshole attitude but when it comes to Heather he turns to puddy. He will pretty much do anything to help her.

I only wished though that Heather put up more of a fight. She just took in everything. The good and the bad. I kind of wanted her to just put her foot down and say no. Or even lash out a bit. I wasn’t troubled by the age one bit. Noah respected her and kept his distance. Or tried to anyway. Heather didn’t make it easy for him at all. I loved seeing these two strangers form a nice friendship. But Heather was always upfront with wanting to be with him. It didn't take long for Noah to develop feelings for her. But it did take much restraint to act on it. I had to respect him for that. But once they finally cross that line, the chemistry between them starts crackling. You can definitely see that there is something deeper between the two of them. And I mean more than just a physical attraction.

But when August comes, big decisions need to be made and ways will be parted. There isn't much time. Will that be the end? Or will it be just the beginning?
