REVIEW POST ~ MAYBE THIS LOVE by Jennifer Snow

Synopsis:

Hockey player Ben Westmore has some serious skills---on and off the ice---and he's not above indulging in the many perks of NHL stardom. When a night in Vegas ends in disaster, he realizes two things: 1) it's time to lie low for a while, and 2) he needs a lawyer---fast. But the smoking-hot woman who walks into his office immediately tests all his good intentions.

Olivia Davis doesn't need anyone derailing her career---or her dreams of starting a family---least of all a skirt-chasing player like Ben. But soon he's unleashing a full-court press to convince her that he's the real deal. She's slowly falling for his sweet, rugged charm, but with so much on the line, Olivia has to decide whether Ben can truly change---or if he's just playing the game.

Review:

Maybe This Love was a quick read for me. Though, I have mix feelings about this book. This is the first book I have read by this author and the blurb intrigued me. The story line is different, one I particularly haven’t read yet so it’s not the usual romance. Jennifer’s writing will keep you going until the end. While reading I wanted to know what would happen in the end, it’s what pushed me through. However, there were some parts while reading where the characters thoughts got lost in translation to me. It was some of these parts where I skimmed through it. But then the story line would capture me again. I only wished that it kept me intrigued the entire time instead of an up and down thing. The characters though, I kind of fell in love with.

Ben… sigh… there’s a lot to say about him. The famous hockey player trying to get to his end goal who gets derailed by a lapse of judgement. Ben is everyone woman’s fantasy. He’s hot, athletic, smart and has a big heart of gold. You can’t help but fall for him yourself.
In walks in Olivia. Their first meeting is due to some unusual circumstances. It was like lust at first sight. She was supposed to be the enemy. Olivia can screw up his career. But one meeting with her, you can instantly tell the chemistry between the two of them are off the charts. Olivia does as much as she can to act on this but it’s a hard feat to do. Especially with someone as charming as Ben.

Olivia has her own goals in mind and a meeting with Ben will not put them off. She has dedicated so many years to her job, now its time to start thinking about herself and what will make her happy. Starting a family is something she had always wanted but had never achieved. It’s now time to make that happen. Olivia is someone I admire because of her dedication, her strength and her ability to love once she is loved back.

I love the back and forth banter between Ben and Olivia. She seems to keep his cockiness in line. Someone no one has ever been able to achieve. Though Olivia has no interest in Ben and his playboy ways. She does not want to be another notch in his post. But little to Olivia’s knowledge Ben’s feeling towards women have changed and it is all because of her. Usually Ben can get any woman he wants, but this time he wants Olivia and she won’t give him the time of day. Ben can offer something she has been longing from another person and he can give it to her as long as she lets him in. He is very persistent when it comes to Olivia, one to never give up. He is one who always gets what he wants. And Olivia is it, along with the Stanley Cup. Can he do both without compromising the other?

I went and finished Ben and Olivia’s story in which I ended up loving. Once they break down each other’s walls, we see a different side to them both. A side that only comes out when they are together. But with their situation being so unusual, can they get through it? Together? Or will they be better apart? Will both their careers and differences be their demise?

This book was reviewed by Jenn. I received an advanced copy for my honest review.
