YOU WERE MINE by Abbi Glines
Gossip is the ultimate currency in Rosemary Beach, but Bethy and Tripp have managed to keep one big secret to themselves.
Eight years ago, Tripp Newark was dating a rich girl he didn’t like and was on his way to Yale—and a future he didn’t want. The only way he could escape his predictable life would be to give up the money and power that came with his family’s name. And that’s exactly what he planned to do. At the end of the summer, he was going to ride off on his Harley and never look back.
That was before he met Beth Lowry.
It was only supposed to be a summer fling. She was a sixteen-year-old trailer-park girl who served drinks to his friends at Kerrington Country Club. They didn’t run in the same social circles. No one even knew they were friends, let alone lovers. Yet, for one summer, Bethy became his entire world.
But he couldn’t give up on his plan. He needed to leave Rosemary Beach, but he vowed he would come back for her.
Problem was, by the time he came back—years later than promised—it was too late. His cousin, Jace, had already claimed the woman he loved. . . .

Review:
“Things worth having don’t come easy,” Woods said. “You have to fight for it until you’re tired of fighting, and then you take a breather and fight some more.” “Don’t give up. You’ll regret it.”
I have been anticipating Bethy’s story since it was
announced that she and Tripp were coming out with a book. It made me wonder,
what was their connection? Did they have something going on before or after
Jace’s tragic moment? Or during for that matter? Did Jace know of any history
that they had if any prior to him getting serious with her? I mean he did look
up to Tripp and all. I had all these questions in my head that needed answers
to and this book was the only one that would do it.
“He was my favorite daydream. Now here he was saving me again.” ~ Bethy
Beth Lowry first met Tripp at a very young age, she was sure
he didn’t even remember her. In her eyes, at that moment, he saved her. That’s
when her feelings for Tripp Montgomery Newark started. She is from the rough
parts of town and him from a whole line of wealth with Yale in his future.
Although she knew nothing would come from those feelings, she would keep them
to herself. Years later their paths would cross again. He would save her yet
again. And in that one summer, their lives would change forever.
“You’ll move on too. I’ll just be a summer memory.” ~ Bethy
I love how Abbi gives us flashbacks, giving us a view of
what really happened in both point of views. We get answers of how Bethy and
Tripp are connected. They had a summer full of fun, kept to themselves, and
they became each other’s very own secret. Yet those secrets would haunt the
both of them forever.
“Everyone has that defining moment in life. That one choice you have to make. I had my moment, and it has haunted me ever since.” ~ Tripp
Walking away from Bethy all those years thought was the best
decision he made for the both of them at the time, however it was one that
destroyed them both. As much as it pained for her to do so, she eventually
moved on with Jace, who was also his cousin. And she loved him just as much,
she was happy. When tragedy struck, and Jace lost his life saving Bethy, her
life became nonexistent. She didn’t want to live anymore. It was all her fault.
She deserved to die, not him. Her life became numbed. Guilt filled Tripp and he
took it upon himself to watch over her.
“You will always remind me of what I lost. Twice. I only lose with you. Tripp. You leave destruction in your wake. I can’t handle losing anything anymore.” ~ Bethy
Bethy has just been existing, living life through the
motions. To her friends, it may seem like she was fine, but Tripp knew her well
enough to know she was putting on a façade. He knew the real Bethy. He knew
deep down inside she was hurting. He always knew her. She hated him, wouldn’t
talk to him and he couldn’t blame her for leaving her the way he did. But it
still didn’t stop him from caring. After all those years, even when Jace loved
her, it never stopped him from loving her any less. So even though she didn’t
acknowledge her, he would make sure she was safe; that she was okay. Tripp
would make sure that Bethy would start living again. Jace would want her to
live.
“She needed me as much as I needed her. Our story wasn’t over. It would never be.”~ Tripp
The story brings enough angst that I was not able to put the
book down. Heck, I even read the book twice prior to writing my review. Abbi
did a wonderful job writing this emotional filled book, it had me clutching my
heart a few times. It put me on an emotional rollercoaster ride that’s for sure.
Tripp… man he sure gives Rush a run for him money with that mouth of his; he’s
got a dirty mouth that will have you ripping your panties off ladies! I loved
the support that Bethy and Tripp receive from the friends they have. They’re
pretty much one tightknit family and I love it. When something happens to one
of them, everyone is involved. They never once gave up on Bethy. She didn’t have much family growing up, but
now she has more family than she knows what to do with. The only thing I didn’t like about it was that
it just felt a little too rushed at the end, I was expecting more, but that’s
just my opinion. Other than that this was another job well done Abbi!
