REVIEW ~ LEGALLY MINE by Nicole French

 Blurb:
What's the point of falling in love if it only breaks your heart?

Skylar Crosby should be on top of the world. She's just graduated from the best law school in the country and is supposed to kick-start a successful career. But with her father still recovering from his gambling addiction, her absentee mother suddenly reappearing in her life, and the stresses of studying for the bar exam, Skylar is feeling more like she's holding the world up rather than standing on top of it. And then, of course, there's the matter of her utterly smashed heart.

In just a few short months, brilliant attorney and all-around tycoon Brandon Sterling quickly became the sun to Skylar's universe only to twist it upside down and inside out with his secrets, leaving her with a decision to make that will change both of their lives forever. And although Brandon can't forget the girl who gave him back his heart, sudden changes in his own complicated life will make getting her back that much more difficult. Luckily, Brandon Sterling has never been one to walk away from a challenge.

Even when the whole world seems united against them, it's possible that they are their own worst enemies. Legally Mine, the second book in the explosive Spitfire series, continues the saga of Skylar and Brandon as two stubborn, intelligent, damaged people trying to learn how to let themselves love and be loved return.

Review:

This is the second installment of this trilogy series and let me tell you… she gets you again. I mean, yes I know this is a trilogy but gosh darn it, Nicole loves to leave you hanging. Right when it was getting good. Just saying.

My heart broke for Skylar in this book. She is left without Brandon and is left to deal with her situation alone. While trying to move on without him, she has to make the biggest decision of her life. It’s like Nicole just wanted to crush you. I felt right with Skylar and damn did I want to just give her one big hug and tell her it would be okay. No one should have to go through life alone like that.

When she finally comes back to it, she puts her feelings and her happiness aside so that her family will be well taken care of. Skylar needs to make sure her Bubbe keeps the house and that her father gets better. It can’t happen if she says in New York. The past will not always be the past. It has a way to wiggle its way back in if you are not prepared. That’s what I have found out with this book. All around.

Brandon has had a hard time moving on from Skylar, but he needs to after all the radio silence. But when she makes an appearance back to town his mind goes back to fixing things. Back together, they are still combustible when together. It’s like no time has gone between them. I really do love them together. It’s like they bring out the best in one another. I saw a different side of Brandon. A softer side, one who wanted to try and change for Skylar. There was though a lot of push and pulling between Skylar and Brandon. Honestly, more than necessary. Some parts just had me wishing they got their act together so we can skip all this back and forth. And the fact that Brandon still had not taken care of his business, I felt as if he was just stringing her along. He needs to hurry that up.

Let’s talk about Skylar’s family coming back into the picture. I never liked her mom and had a bad feeling about her. I feel bad for her siblings though, to have to go through life with those parents. I wanted to go and bitch slap her mom and her husband. I was furious for Skylar. Why would anyone do that to their own flesh and blood!? But I’m hoping karma will come around quick. Here Skylar will learn who her true friends and who is only there to watch her fall.

Brandon’s life is about to change and if Skylar is involved his life will change completely as well. It doesn’t seem like the life Skylar has always envisioned for herself. But for Brandon, will she give up who she truly is?

Everyone seems to want Brandon and Skylar together again. That or they want something from them. Will they be able to beat the odds and let love win? Or will everyone prevail in this situation?

Her dad, when Brandon got involved I knew that would be the downfall of it all. But how could you do that to me with the ending!! I’m going to need the final book ASAP!! I truly hope he (her father) can figure his shit out and get better to finally be the father that Skylar needs. She needs to start being taken care of not always sacrificing herself for everyone. Every girl needs that.

Can we please have a Jane and Eric book, like soon? Their “hatred” for one another is soo cute. They need their story to be told.

There is just too much to this book, you have to read it for yourself in order to love it. One little thing will just create a domino effect and give the book away.

This review was done by Jenn. I was given an advanced copy for my honest review.

Excerpt:
We stared at each other, bristling and irritated. Finally, eager to break the stare-off, I pushed off the wall with my feet to float on my back. I stretched toward the opposite end of the pool, arching in a way that made my breasts peak toward the ceiling, then flipped backward until I popped up again through the water. When I surfaced, Brandon was watching intently, a different kind of fire in his ice-blue eyes. Did he wanted to strangle me or eat me alive? It was hard to tell the difference.
"I know what you're doing," he said finally, low and almost menacing.
I continued to tread water, then flipped over again, slowing my movements even more. "Do you?"
"Get out of there, will you?" Brandon reached a hand out, beckoning me to swim back.
I just stared at it. "No," I said. "I'm not done with my workout."
I rolled backward through the water once more, then resurfaced to find Brandon standing up. His face looked like murder, but the tenting in his pants spoke of something else.
"Get out of the pool, Red," Brandon said, barely concealing his frustration.
"Stop telling me what to do."
"I'm not joking. Get out."
"No."
"Get out of the fuckin' pool, Skylar!" Brandon shouted, his South Boston accent out in full force. He thrust both hands into his hair and yanked. "Fuck!"
I just kept treading while sounds of the water lapping on the sides of the pool filled the space between us. Brandon stared at me, then dropped his hands.
"Fine," he said as he started to remove his vest. "Have it your way." He unbuttoned his shirt and tossed them both on the lounge chair next to him.
"What are you doing?" I asked as he started pulling off his shoes and socks, which then joined the clothes.
"What do you think?" Brandon snapped as he unbuckled his belt. "You won't come out, so I'm coming in."
"In your underwear?"
He pulled off his pants and threw them on top of his other things. He now stood in front of me in nothing but his boxer briefs, his perfectly sculpted body, including his sizable erection, on display for anyone to see. The reflected light glimmered over the broad lines of his shoulders and pectorals, the v-shaped muscles of his abdomen, the lean, long shapes of his thighs. Now he was the one who looked like a Greek statue.
I bit my lip, willing the heat building in my core to calm down.
"Well, it's either that or nothing at all," Brandon said just before he jumped in with a splash.
Tall as he was, he didn't need to tread water, but he still dipped underwater and surfaced like some kind of mythical sea god. The water glistened on his muscles as he tracked me like a shark.
My legs somehow kept circling, but the rest of me stilled. I wasn't in the mood to be pounced on, as Brandon sometimes did. He often used sex as a Band-Aid, and right now, I wasn't okay with that, even if the water droplets sliding over his pecs were getting me pretty hot and bothered.
My instincts took over: fight or flight. I dove underneath the blue lane barrier and swam to the corner of the pool. Before I could climb up the ladder, though, I found myself caged by two tanned, rock-hard arms.
"I don't think so."
Brandon's voice vibrated in my ear, and I froze. I turned slowly, and he released his grip on the ladder, backing off just enough so that I could turn around. His gaze bored into me like a drill. But it wasn't just the intensity in his eyes that pinned me to the ledge; it was the hurt there as well.
"You can't keep doing this," Brandon said in a low, taut voice.
Around me, his body was pulled tight as a drum. The evening had taken a toll on him too.
"You can't keep running away every time I do something you don't like."
"I don't––"
"You do," he cut me off gently.
We were close enough that he didn't need to raise his voice. Around me, his muscles flexed even more.
"Every time. My office. The airport. After you found out about Miranda, about Messina's payoff. That night at the club. And now tonight. If I railroad, Red, you run."
I heard my grandmother's words to me in Brooklyn after I had escaped there in April. She had compared me to my mother, who couldn't even stand beside me for the length of a party. And now I was becoming just like her.
"My life is complicated," Brandon continued. "I know that. I know it's not easy for you. But I am yours, Skylar, body and soul. But I can't be yours if you're not mine too."

BLOG TOUR ~ BEAUTIFUL MISTAKE by Vi Keeland

The first time I met Caine West was in a bar. He noticed me looking his way and mistakenly read my scowling as checking him out. When he attempted to talk to me, I set him straight—telling him what I thought of his lying, cheating, egomaniacal ass. You see, the gorgeous jerk had wined and dined my best friend--smooth talking her into his bed, all along failing to mention that he was married. He deserved every bit of my tongue-lashing and more for what he'd done. Especially when that lazy smile graced his perfect face in response to my rant. Only it turned out, the man I'd just told off wasn't the right guy. Oops. My mistake. Embarrassed, I slunk out without an apology. I was never going to see the handsome stranger again anyway, right? That’s what I thought…until I walked into class the next morning. Well, hello Professor West, I’m your new teaching assistant. I’ll be working under you…figuratively speaking.  Review:

My, my Professor West! I should not be surprised when this book got into my hands. Vi Keeland always finds a way to make her characters come to life and make you love them. Vi has not disappointed with this book.

When Rachel and Caine first met, it was in a bar and she told him off. From that first meeting, you can feel the sexual tension sizzling between the two of them. Like off the charts hot. Thinking that was their one and only encounter, they are proven wrong when Rachel ends up being Caine's TA.

I loved who Rachel was from the beginning. Her personality just drew me to her. She sticks up for her friends, is very independent, does not want help from anyone and is a very strong person. She cares for those close to her but still keeps them at arms length. Her strength is what amazes me so much. Rachel keeps the past hidden so far deep, that when the past finally decides to make an appearance it could be a breaking point for her. Her story just crushes you. But yet, how she overcame her past is what made me love her.

Professor West is that one professor I wished I had while attending school. Why can't they make them all like him? He loves his job and his music. It is definitely shown when he is teaching. Caine may seem so put together, but that is definitely far from it. He does a great job with him image that's for sure. His family background is one that I would have not pegged him for. He has a past that he keeps so tight lipped. He is still suffering from the repercussions of it. Hearing Caine's past makes my heart break. He should not have that much guilt on his shoulders. But what draws me to him is how he has pushed forward and made himself as successful as he can be.

Caine has been trying to curb his attraction to Rachel. It would definitely put his career off since she is his TA and all. They try so hard to avoid it. It's even comical watching sometimes. It's like their doing a dance of some sort. But you really can't deny what is truly meant to be. And when it finally happens. Prepare yourself for Professor West.

But when that turning point arrives and the shoe drops. Oh my word! I literally gasped out loud when it happened. And I bet you will too. I did not peg it to ever go down like that but it sure did. It really did though bring this story full circle.

It really is how they make it work when both their pasts come back front and center. Can Caine and Rachel get past it? Or will the past always be in the way?

I hope you will take a chance at this book and love it too. I mean it's Vi Keeland so how can you not.

HATETOLOVEYOUFINALCOVER2

Hate to Love You by Tijan Genre: Contemporary Romance

Publication Date: August 28th

Rule #1: No hot guys.
It might sound ridiculous. I get it. It kind of is, but college was supposed to be my sanctuary. It was my place to start over. The rumors, the whispers, and the jealousy I endured through high school would all be gone.
No one would know me at college.
Rule #2: No drama.
I’d major in pre-law. I’d make a few loyal friends. Everything would be easy breezy. No one was going to use me or hurt me. I wouldn’t let them.
Rule #3: New year. New place. New me.
Right?
Wrong.
And all because of Shay Coleman.
Football captain and quarterback, he was the big guy on campus. The cocky guy in my political science class with a smirk. I hated him on sight . . .
. . . and he was about to break all my rules.

An excerpt from Beautiful Mistake…   The class was completely empty. I wasn’t even sure he knew I was still in my seat. If he did, he was good at ignoring me as he packed up his laptop. “Contrary to the rumors you’ve probably heard, I don’t bite.” I jumped when he spoke. Now that the lecture hall was no longer filled with students, the acoustics of the large space bounced his deep voice all over the walls. I stood and began my walk of shame down to the front of the classroom. There was no doubt I owed the man an apology, even if he wasn’t a professor—a professor who would be my new boss for at least the next fifteen weeks. I wanted to kick myself in the ass for not apologizing last night before I left the bar. Now it would seem like I was only doing it because of the situation I was in. Which was true, don’t get me wrong, but I didn’t want it to seem that way. I took a deep breath. “I’m so sorry about last night.” His face was unreadable. “I figured you might be, right about now.” “I obviously thought you were someone else.” “So I assumed. You thought I was the asshole. The one with the big dick, was it?” I shut my eyes. For the last ninety minutes, I’d replayed the entire exchange from last night over and over in my head. I thought I’d remembered everything I said, but apparently I hadn’t. When I reopened my eyes, Professor West was still watching me. His stare was pretty damn intense. I started to babble. “My friend Ava went out with this guy Owen for a month or so. He was full of shit from day one, but she didn’t see it. Actually walked up to her when she was leaving work one night and said, ‘Do you mind if I walk you home? My mother always told me to follow my dreams.’ She fell for it, the entire act, from the first day. Then one Saturday, he was supposedly out of town on business, and she was across town running errands for her mother. She took a shortcut through Madison Square Park on her way back from the grocery store and ran into him. He was with his wife and kids.” “And you thought I was him, apparently?” I nodded. “She came in during my shift and started drinking Long Island iced teas. When Owen walked in, she pointed to where he was standing and said he was the one in the blue shirt.” “And we were both wearing blue shirts, I take it?” I couldn’t help but smile, thinking of Ava last night. “Actually, no. Ava’s not much of a drinker. Turned out she was more sloshed than I thought. Owen’s shirt was brown—not even black that could be mistaken as navy or something.” I saw Professor West’s lip twitch. “Anyway, I’m really sorry. I barely gave you a chance to speak, and then when I realized what had happened, I was so mortified I didn’t even stop to apologize.” “I accept your apology for last night. Even though you shouldn’t be approaching a man in the hallway to tell him off alone, your intentions were admirable.” I should have shut up and been grateful he’d accepted my apology. Should have. “Why can’t I approach a man in the hallway?” He leveled me with a stare. “Because you’re five foot nothing in a loud bar, and no one would have heard you if I’d dragged you into the men’s room and locked the door.” I folded my arms over my chest. “I can take care of myself.” “I didn’t say you couldn’t. I said you shouldn’t put yourself in those situations.” “But you insinuated that I couldn’t by making that statement.” He zipped his leather bag closed. “Ms. Martin, I just accepted your apology for calling me an asshole last night. Would you like me to retract that acceptance?” God, I really was an idiot. Being around this man seemed to turn me into a psychopath. “No. I’m sorry. I acted like a jerk, and I’d like to start over, if that’s possible.” He nodded. “Everything prior to this morning is forgotten.” “Thank you.” “But this morning is not. I won’t accept lateness. Don’t let it happen again.” I swallowed. “It won’t.” He lifted his worn, brown leather laptop bag over one shoulder. “Meet me here at five tomorrow. We’ll go over the syllabus and the classes you’ll teach, as well as my grading rubric.” That was smack in the middle of my shift, but I’d figure something out. “Okay.” “Are you done for the day?” “I am. I actually have to get to work. I’m covering Ava’s shift because she isn’t feeling too well after last night. We both work at O’Leary’s.” “You waitress there?” “Waitress, bartend, occasionally tell off patrons.” That earned me a full smile from Professor West. God, he should do that more often. No, forget that. He definitely shouldn’t. “I’ll walk out with you.” We walked through the halls together and out to the parking lot. When we arrived at my car, I stopped. “This is me. So…five o’clock tomorrow?” Professor West looked at my beat-up old Subaru. “You’re parked in a spot reserved for the Provost. You got a parking ticket.” He squinted. “Actually, it looks like you have two parking tickets. Was your inspection expired or something?” Crap. “Umm…no. I keep an extra ticket in the glove compartment and stick it on my windshield when I’m forced to park illegally.” His brows shot up. “Inventive.” “Obviously it doesn’t always work.” “Obviously.” “They need more parking. When you’re late, it’s impossible to find a spot.” He studied me. “Lateness is a frequent occurrence for you, I take it?” “Unfortunately, it is.” “Then I should clarify something I said earlier.” “Oh, no, that’s not necessary. I won’t be late for your class.” He took a step closer and leaned in. “I’m glad to hear that, Ms. Martin. But that’s not what needs clarification.” I swallowed. God, he smells good. “Earlier I told you I didn’t bite students.” He smiled, and I felt the wickedness from it shoot down to some interesting places. “I don’t. But I make no promises about not biting feisty TAs.”

Review:

I absolutely adored this book Jilted. Sawyer does a fantastic job making the characters come to life you won't want to put the book down.

This is pretty much your small town second chance book but with its own little twist. Eden left her town and everything in it when she had her big break. This includes Cooper the love of her life whom she was going to spend the rest of her life with. Eden and Cooper were the complete opposites. They come from completely different backgrounds but that did not stop them from falling in love. Eden leaves everything to get her big break.

Eden becomes completely successful throughout her career. She has everything she could possibly need except happiness. She always felt lonely. My heart broke for her when she reveals what she's truly feeling inside. Being a big shot, she still wants to feel like a part of someone. Growing up she didn't have that once her parents were gone. She essentially grew up alone. Until cooper that is. When Edens current life takes a turn of events she runs back to the one place she fled from.

I was thinking when Eden went back home for a break everyone would welcome her. But that wasn't the case. No one liked her. At all. But when and unusual circumstance puts Eden and Cooper under the same roof, all hell will break loose. I loved how their meeting after so many years played out and what transpired between them. I laughed, I cried, I swooned and I got a bit angry at some things. When all misunderstandings are cleared, Eden has her fresh start. And let me tell you, there were a lot of misunderstandings. I loved Cooper! He stood his ground with Eden and didn't let her suck him back into the past. You can truly see that they bring out the best in one another. And together they over come what transpired in the past and try to move forward.

But when Eden gets another big break, it's like deja vu all over again. Will she continue to run? Or will she stay and fight? Is her relationship with Cooper worth it all? Will cooper just let her go or will he stop her this time?

The chemistry between the two are off the charts. I loved them both. I mean Eden became more likable to me when she was with Cooper. The true side of her comes out. Eden had one friend from the bakery who befriended her when everyone hated her. She's awesome and she deserves her happy ever after too. That is one book I would love to see come to life.

BLOG TOUR ~ Dr. ER by Max Monroe

Blurb:

Dr. Erotic.

That’s what they’ve decided to call me, Scott Shepard, the head of St. Luke’s Hospital Emergency Department.
Just thinking about it makes me smile.
As the new face of the reality docuseries, The Doctor Is In, I plan to take his power and recognition right to the streets of New York City and into the pants of willing women.

Well, that was my plan.

Until her—feisty, beautiful, and addictively sexy Harlow Paige.
A gossip columnist that just loves writing about yours truly, she’s everything I thought I never wanted and then some.
She drives me crazy.
Problem is, she doesn’t want to be anything when it comes to me—not friends, not lovers, not even adversaries.
God, I love a good challenge.

Get ready, Harlow. Love is contagious.

REVIEW:

As always, Max Monroe does not disappoint. This series will have you laughing your ass off, and at the same time, pull on the strings to your heart. Scott Shepard and Harlow were everything I wanted. Harlow pulled no punches and was a heroin that I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know. Scott.....  Where do I begin. He was quite the character. No woman has ever captured his attention quite like Harlow has. Or shall I say Frances.  When he met the feisty patient that stumbled into his ER after a "bedroom incident", he was a goner.

There were several incidents in this book that I was laughing out loud, literally...  The chemistry between Scott and Harlow is off the charts.  But what happens when neither of them are looking for something serious? What happens when one may want more, but doesn't speak their mind? What if BOTH may want more?  Could Harlow tame Dr. Erotic?  Does Dr. Erotic have it in him to love just one woman?

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED, seeing a hero chase a heroin. It was refreshing. I loved seeing Scott fall for Harlow. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing a manwhore be tamed. That one woman could be good enough for him. He just needed to find the RIGHT woman.

You must read this series. Better yet. READ ALL OF MAX MONROE'S BOOKS.

The Boudreaux Series—Sexy. Intriguing. Easy.

No one said change was easy…

Savannah Boudreaux knows what it is to hurt. To bleed. To be afraid that the man she’s promised to be true to until “death do us part” might in fact separate them far sooner than anyone had ever anticipated. But Van also knows what it is to survive. To move on. To live life to the fullest. With five brothers and sisters and a loving mother as her constant source of strength during the pain and the healing, Van realizes there is little else she needs.

But some things never change…

Benjamin Preston sat on the sidelines of the Boudreaux family for years, in love with a woman he couldn’t have. As the best friend of the Boudreaux brothers since childhood, Ben has seen both tragedies and joys in the family. And as a former MMA fighter and KravMaga expert, Ben’s used to fighting for what he wants—and winning. His hands were tied when Savannah married her high school sweetheart not long after graduation, but now two years have passed since Ben found Savannah broken in her own home.

Sometimes what you need most has been right in front of you the whole time…

Van’s convinced that happiness isn’t in the cards for her, no matter how right it feels to be in Ben’s strong arms—and his bed. Ben is determined to win her heart and fight for her trust. He’s promised to protect her, to be her friend. But more than anything, he wants to finally make her his, and this is one fight he’s not willing to lose.

REVIEW:

Savannah and Ben did not disappoint and their story was well worth the wait. We all know that Savannah has been to hell and back with her ex-husband. She deserves to be happy. Ben thinks he can make her happy. Ben has been in love with Savannah for years. Ben has been by her side sine they were young. Always loving her from a distance. Savannah needed time to heal from the abuse her ex-husband caused. Will Ben be able to give Savannah what she needs?  Savannah has always trusted Ben, if their relationship changes, will her trust for him as well?

The connection and bond between Ben and Savannah made me swoon. Over the years, we have watched them, saw how their relationship began to change. Ben wanted something more from Savannah. Is Savannah ready to take the step. If so, will Ben catch her?

This was a 5 star read for me !!!!

EXCERPT

We turn a corner and there it is, my favorite tree. It’s at least four hundred years old, with branches so big and heavy that they rest on the ground.

And under it is a portable swing with a red blanket spread in front of it.

“Oh, my.”

He smiles down at me and leads me to the swing. I sit and kick my flip flops off, and Ben sets the basket in the middle of the blanket and joins me on the swing.

“This is lovely.”

“It’s a good day for it,” he says and rests his arm on the back of the swing, behind my shoulders. His fingertips brush the bare skin on my shoulder. I scoot closer to him and rest my head on his shoulder.

“We spent countless summers out here,” he says quietly, as if speaking too loud will disrupt the perfect spring day.

“We did.”

“And as a teenager, I would see you sitting out here, under this tree, with a book. Your knees pulled up to your chest, and your bare feet dirty as can be. You took my breath away even then.”

I glance up at him in surprise.

“I can’t tell you how often I’d watch you—not in a creepy way, I might add—I’d watch you reading and enjoying this tree, and I wanted so badly to sit with you and kiss you senseless.”

“I didn’t know that.”

“Of course you didn’t,” he says with a gentle smile. “But now you do.”

He nudges my chin up with his fingers and lowers his lips to mine, covering them softly. I cup his face in my hand and let myself simply soak in the moment, in my favorite place, with this man.

He slowly takes the kiss from sweet to hot, and to my delight, drags his hand from my hip to my breast, his thumb dancing over my already tight nipple.

Good God, he’s like a drug that I’ll never get tired of.

After what seems like an hour, he pulls back and rests his forehead against mine.

“I have been waiting for that for a very long time,” he whispers.

“I think this was probably way better than anything you might have done as a teenager.”

He chuckles. “Ture. So, it’s a win-win.”

I let my fingertips glide down his cheeks to his neck.

“Savannah.”

“Yes?”

“I want you,” he says and closes his eyes tightly. “I don’t say that to rush you into anything, and this isn’t the time or place anyway, but I need you to know that I want you.”

I cover his lips with mine, watching his eyes. “I want you too, Ben.”

He inhales and kisses me again, moving straight into hot as fuck.

Finally, he pulls back, clears his throat, and smiles at me.

“Are you hungry?”

I laugh and push my hair off my face. “So hungry.”

“I think Gabby made fried chicken.”

“That sounds good too.”
