BLOG TOUR WORTH THE CHANCE by VI KEELAND

WORTH THE CHANCE

A New Adult/Adult Contemporary Romance

NYT Bestselling Author Vi Keeland

Summary

Meet Liv Michaels
It may have been seven years, but I’d know him anywhere. Sure, he’s grown, filled out in all the right places, but his captivating blue eyes and cocky grin are exactly the way I remember. Even though I’d much rather forget.

Liv Michaels is almost there. She’s smart, determined and weeks away from landing the job she’s dreamed about for years. Time healed old wounds, even her broken heart from the devastation of being crushed by her first love.

Meet Vince Stone
Women love a fighter, especially a good one. Lucky for me, I’m damn good. But there’s one woman that isn’t interested. Not again, anyway.

Vince ‘The Invincible’ Stone is every woman’s fantasy…strong, sexy, confident and completely in control. Growing up surrounded by chaos, he’s learned never to get too attached. Love will drag you down. He adores women, treats them well, puts their own needs before his own…for the night anyway. With the biggest fight of his life coming up, his focus should be on training.

When fate brings Vince & Liv back together again, there’s no denying the chemistry is still there. But can Vince erase the old scars their past left behind? Or will Liv hurt him instead?

 Review

This book may be read as a stand-alone, but I strongly suggest that you read Worth the Fight prior to reading this book. This book focuses on a different set of main characters, however, characters from Worth the Fight appear in this book and it makes a lot more sense if you read it beforehand.

“I don’t think it matters what we plan for ourselves. Some things in life are just too powerful to change.” ~ Liv
Liv Michaels had always admired Vince Stone from afar or he would appear in her dreams. Being the shy, quiet girl that she is, that would be the closest she would ever come to someone like him. He is hot, outgoing and very popular. Complete opposite from her. He would never look her way, better yet, he would never talk to her. Everyone dismissed Liv. But once she became his tutor and they got to know each other, things changed. In the end, she got her heart broken.

Vince Stone has always loved fighting, but usually gets in trouble for it. He has had a very troubled childhood; growing up with a single mother. She tried her best to be there for him when she was straight, but it seems like he took care of her more times than not. When he started going to Nico’s gym, he took Vince in and took him under his wing. He may have just been in high school, but he was able to help turn Vince’s life around and turn his love for fighting into something good.

Liv is only one big assignment away from landing her dream job. The job she has always wanted for as long as she can remember. She just needs to beat her competition, who has the advantage with this job because of “daddy dearest” and her looks can get her pretty much everything she wants, however, she can nail this job with her brains. Little did she know, her final assignment would land her in the same room with the same Vince Stone that broke her heart all those years ago. Vince is now all grown up and a professional fighter, who is also teaching the self-defense class that she is currently in. One look at Liv and he wants her.
“I want you, Liv. I can’t stop myself. Tell me you don’t feel what’s between us and I’ll go.”
“Its just you. It’s all too much, too fast, and too intense, and it scares me. Scares the hell out of me.”
“Trust me about one thing, Liv…whatever is going on between us, it’s going to happen. You can make it as difficult as you want, but we, Liv, are going to happen. Neither one of us can stop it.”
The connection between Liv and Vince is just too strong. It’s as if they picked up from where they left off all those years ago. There was always something between them and it seems as if it never left. There is no denying that Vince wants her, but she keeps on fighting it. Vince loves women. He is seen with a different woman every night. Heck, the day he saw Liv again for the first time he was seen with a girl. She doesn’t want to put her heart on the line again. Her mind tells her one thing but her heart tells her another. One look at him and there is no denying that she wants him too.

Vince is very persistent when it comes to getting what he wants, especially when Liv is involved. He finally wore her down and she gives in to her feelings. She’s very cautious at first with her feelings, as she should be with him considering past history. She still doesn’t understand why he would want to be with her when he could have any other girl out there. The sexual chemistry is defiantly there. Vince has got a bit of a dominant side to him. He likes to be in control in the bedroom and boy does he like it rough. And hot damn is it hot! Like panty melting hot! He may have a dominant side, but when it comes to Liv, she wants to show her love. I just love the relationship that they have. It goes beyond a physical one. They have a much deeper connection. It’s like he wants to be a better person because of her. They may be opposites, but they get each other.

Even with the terrible childhood that Vince had, he still checks on his mom after all these years to make sure she is alright. Whenever she gets herself into a bad situation he always tries his hardest to get her out of it, no matter what it takes. Normally he keeps his past to himself, but with Liv, there is not hiding it from her. She doesn’t judge him, she goes with him along for the ride and supports him. I love her for that. She sees no flaws in him. But what happens when his mom gets him involved into something that could cost him his future?

Liv turned down the assignment but was given an even bigger assignment that still involves Vince and his “birth” father. Not wanting to get him hyped up what could potentially be nothing, she digs into the story behind his back. Yes, she feels guilty for doing so and desperately wants to tell him, but would much rather find out all the facts before breaking him the news. However, the truth, or hiding this secret could potentially ruin the relationship that they have.

Will Vince be able to help his mom get out of this jam? Or will it be worth the chance to possibly lose the opportunity to get what he’s been working so hard to get to? Can Liv put her walls down and give herself freely to Vince? Is Vince capable of being in a relationship and loving someone? Will Liv be able to tell Vince about the story she is working on? Or will she keep it from him until she finds the end? Will Vince feel betrayed over her hidden secrets? Will finding the end truth about Vince be worth losing her dream job over? Is their relationship worth the chance to risk it all?

I absolutely LOVED this book! Vi did not disappoint me! I was patiently waiting for this book as soon as Worth the Fight came out and boy did she outdo herself with this one. I fell in love with Vince. With other women, he treated them roughly and like doormats you could say. With Liz, yes, you could tell he had a dominant side, but he was much softer with her. You could tell her truly had feelings for her. He was rough and tough on the outside, but with her, he was different. He always put her first before anything. I loved Liv for being such a strong and stand up person. I agree with the things that she did and the sacrifices she made. She always put Vince’s needs before hers, even when he didn’t realize it. It takes a lot to balls to do what she did. Heck, I don’t think I’d be able to do it honestly. I can’t wait for the next book in this installment. If you haven’t read this book yet, you defiantly should! Great job Vi!

I was given an ARC for my honest review.

BOOK SUMMARY

This soldier’s the perfect hoax…if she doesn’t fall for him first.
Stats whiz Kayla Moriarity knows her way around numbers and algorithms. Men, on the other hand, are unsolvable equations. Now Kayla’s en route to her sister’s wedding—without the fictional boyfriend she invented for her family. Fortunately, her plane comes complete with complimentary cocktails and a ridiculously hot ex-marine in the seat beside her. And that’s all it takes for Kayla’s inhibitions to go sailing out the airlock...
Cooper Shillings has soft spot for people in trouble, but he certainly wasn’t expecting to land in it himself—and definitely not while getting naughty mid-air with a sexy southern belle. When he hears Kayla’s predicament, however, he offers his services as a stand-in boyfriend. After all, he’s heading overseas soon...and how could he refuse a little no-strings wickedness?
It’s the perfect plan. And all Kayla has to do is ensure her family falls for the ultimate bluff, without falling for it—and Cooper—in the process...

My Review

Wow, Diane does a fantastic job with another hot and steaming book.

Kayla Moriarty is not one who likes to fly. So when she needs to hop on a flight to attend her younger sister’s wedding, her nerves start to come over her even before she even gets on that plane. Her family is expecting her to show up with her boyfriend. The boyfriend she made up to keep her family satisfied and off her back from the nagging. They seem to be worried about her since her younger sister is getting settled before she is. All she truly wants is to be happy and live the carefree life, focusing on herself. Now she was caught in a predicament. They wanted to meet him this trip and she had no one to show as her boyfriend. She is a genius around numbers and stats but when it came to men, she is a blubbering fool.

Cooper Shilling was not having a very pleasant day when he arrived at the gate to catch his flight. He is an ex-marine going out of the country to do security for a job he got. His father is not too keen on the idea since his father owns security company of his own. Cooper’s fathers idea is for him to take over the company, however, after all that Cooper had gone through in the Marines, he doesn't want to be given a handout; he wants to earn his way to the top.
Kayla and Cooper meet at their gate at the airport while waiting for their flight. Kayla was a bit intimidated by Cooper because next to him, she is just a plain jane and has jittery nerves around him. He is one hot man.  She has no idea why he would even be talking to her. Conversation strikes and they hit it off. It is clear that there is a connection between the two of them. It’s like instant chemistry. Kayla is very nervous about flying but talking to Cooper has her completely distracted about her flight until it is time to go. Having made an instant friend, it’s time to say goodbye and face the music of her family alone.

The nerves start to hit Kayla when she gets to her seat. She absolutely hates flying. Have I mentioned that? And she’s flying alone. The other problem she needs to face is what will she tell her family when she lands alone. Does she tell them the truth? That she doesn’t have a boyfriend and she truly just wants to be alone and isn’t in a rush to have one? Or does she create another lie and say that he wasn’t able to get away? Her thoughts come to a stop when none other than Cooper comes to occupy the seat beside her. Kayla is surprised yet a little happy to see him, she thought she wasn’t going to be able to see him again until they landed and here he is sitting next to him. Her fear is coming back when they start to take off, when he distracts her by kissing her. Man, let me just say his distraction techniques are pretty hot in this book. I had to fan myself several times. I wish all my flights were like what Kayla experienced. It would make for one hell of an interesting trip. There is definitely sexual chemistry between the two of them, no doubt about that.

While up in the air, they’ve come up with one conclusion, Cooper agreed to be her temporary boyfriend. He would go home with her and play the part since he has a few days before he has to go away. It is evident that there is chemistry between the two of them, so it could work, however it could fail as well, but it’s a better idea than what she has so far. They already know a little about each other, they just need to get to know each other a little more and play the lovey dovey part.

When they arrive, they have some time to themselves before they meet her family. They take this time to get their story straight and get know each other and I mean really get to know each other. There is no doubt they are really into each other. Things get really hot. I mean cold shower hot. It’s as if they have known each other for a very long time. They both haven’t had much experience with relationships, but they both seem to be very comfortable with each other. It’s clear that they have much more than just a physical connection. The meeting with the family is flawless; very believable. A little too believable that they are both naturally playing the part. In just a few days, it will all be over and they will part ways, which leaves an unsettling feeling for both of them. This was supposed to be temporary and fun, so why does it seem so hard to grasp that the end is near?
“I don’t know what real love feels like, but if it feels as good as laying in an open field with you, it must be pretty fucking nice.”
Can they make their temporary relationship into a more permanent one? Do they have enough of a connection to make their relationship work? Will Cooper be able to easily walk away and leave what he had with Kayla? Will Kayla give Cooper a reason to stay or will she watch him walk away? Would they be able to make a long distance relationship work between the two of them? Will Cooper give up his job to stay for Kayla?

I really, really enjoyed this book. Diane never seems to let me down and she stepped up her level of hotness with this book. My husband and I met working at the airport so that fact that this book starts off at the airport got me hooked. I loved the fact that no matter how much her feelings started to develop for Cooper, she had it in her head to not hold him back from leaving. She was not going to be the person to hold him back from anything. I have a soft spot for Cooper. He is this ex-Marine dealing with his own issues with a really big heart. He put Kayla first and he always paid close attention to her and her needs. Reading this book also gave me some distraction tips to try while flying with the hubby next. Great job with this book Diane. I can’t wait for more.

Guest Post #2
Fake turned Real

Temporarily Yours, my newest release with Entangled Publishing, is a book that has a lot of tropes thrown in. What’s a trope, you ask? It’s the underlying theme that is in a romance books. Examples in this book? Forced proximity, Military, Short-term, and Fake lovers.

My favorite trope out of all of these? Fake lovers. I love watching—and writing—character who start out as people who agree to pretend to love each other, for whatever reason they might have.

Then slowly, oh so slowly, it starts to feel less fake. Maybe they realize it, maybe they don’t. But by the time the black moment comes? It’s too late to stop it. The feelings are there, and they’re real, and they now have to decide what to do.

Do they pretend it isn’t real, and run? Or do they stay and fight for what started out as lies…and turned into so much more?

What are some of your favorite themes in romance books?

Blog Tour - THE PAIRING by Katie Ashley (Review)

A Companion Novel to The Proposition and The Proposal

After her former boyfriend left her pregnant and alone, Megan McKenzie swore off men. She spent the last eighteen months focused solely on her son, Mason, along with finishing nursing school at the top of her class. Although she’s not ready to complicate her life with a long-term relationship, a nice no-strings attached hook-up is just what she needs. At her godson, Noah’s, baptism, she finds the perfect candidate in the soft-spoken godfather, Pesh Nadeen. After all, the widower could use a good time too. But after drinking too much, the night doesn’t end the way she thought it would. Forced to leave Pesh’s house through a walk of shame, Megan hopes to never, ever see him again.

For Pesh Nadeen, the very sight of Megan sends him into an emotional tailspin. Since she reminds him too much of what he has lost, he wants to be out of her sight…at first. But the more he gets to know her, there's something about the diminutive blonde that causes his protective side to go into overdrive, and he finds himself wanting more. When Megan is assigned to work in his ER to complete her nursing clinicals, he sees it as fate, but she’s having no part of it. She only wants a physical relationship while he wants far more.

What happens next is a sexy game of cat and mouse to see who will break first or if both of them will eventually get more than they ever bargained for.

REVIEW:

The Pairing in a companion novel to The Proposition and The Proposal novels.  In The Proposal we are introduced to Pesh who was the attending physician who treated Aidan’s father, Patrick when he was rushed to the emergency room.  Patrick was going to force Aidan’s hand to make him admit his feelings for Emma, by playing match maker with Pesh and Emma.  However, Emma was in love with Aidan and only found friendship with Pesh.

It appears that match making runs in the family.  Aidan and Emma are playing match maker in The Pairing.  Aidan and Emma are celebrating the baptism of their son, Noah, with Pesh as the godfather and Megan as the godmother.

It is evident that Megan and Pesh are attracted to each other.  Pesh is thirty seven and wants a committed relationship with the hopes to marry again someday.  Megan is twenty five and wants to live a little since her life revolves around her fifteen month old son, Mason and nursing school.  After a night of Aidan playing bartender, Megan is a little drunk since she doesn’t usually drink. Megan is straight forward with what she wants from Pesh, but Pesh being the gentleman that he is, can’t oblige.  But that doesn’t mean that they two of them didn’t have a little fun.

“If I take you, I’ll be making love to you.  I’ll have you begging and pleading, but you’ll be coming so many times you’ll lose count.  You’ll understand the difference between a quick tumble and the all-consuming power of a physical connection fueled by an emotional one.” ~ Pesh

Two months have passed since that night, and it was as if fate was playing a role in this pairing, as Megan gets placed at the hospital where Pesh is the attending ER physician to complete her clinicals for nursing school.  Megan is embarrassed by the way she acted that night, but it doesn’t appear to bother Pesh.  Pesh wants Megan and he is determined to make Megan his. Pesh is a gentlemen and Megan is feisty!  Megan says what she feels and has no problem saying what she wants.  Megan doesn’t want to fall in love, for fear of being hurt again.  Megan wants one thing from Pesh, but Pesh isn’t that type of man.

“So you’ll let me inside your body but not you heart?” ~ Pesh

After thinking Megan’s proposition through, Pesh comes up with an offer of his own.  He will give her what she wants, and in return, Megan will give Pesh what he wants.  This is where the fun begins.  Can Pesh be the man that Megan wants? If Pesh gives in to Megan’s needs, will Megan give Pesh what he wants?  Will Pesh be able to show Megan that she deserves more than what she is used to? Can the two of them play this game and both get what they want?  By Pesh giving into Megan, will he be able to show Megan what a life with him would be like?

As things with Pesh and Megan begin to unfold.  Megan realizes that she has feelings for Pesh.  Will Megan admit her feelings to Pesh?  Will Megan realize that she deserves a man like Pesh?  Can Megan give Pesh what he wants? Will Pesh accept Megan and Mason, since they are a package deal?  Can Pesh be the father than Mason needs and deserves?

I LOVED this book.  The chemistry between Pesh and Megan was great.  To see how two different cultures combined and accepted each other because the two of them loved each other was heartwarming.  I found Megan to be hilarious.  She said exactly what she felt and what she wanted and never apologized for it.  At times, I found myself laughing out loud with some of the things she said to Pesh.  There was more to Pesh than just his proper attire and the way he spoke and treated people.  Pesh had a side to him that once Megan committed to him, he unleashed.

I enjoyed getting more of Aidan and Emma as well.  The Fitzgerald family is great.  I love the dynamics between all of them and I enjoyed seeing their family grow.  I am sad to see this series come to an end.  I hope that Katie Ashley decides to give us a little more of them sometime in the future.  Even if it is just a novella.

This review was prepared by Heather.  I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
