Boyfriend Bargain by Ilsa Madden-Mills

Ilsa does it again with this college sports romance. So many feels from this story. We get beautifully flawed characters with almost instant heat and sparks, pasts that haunt each step they take, and fear of feeling too much.

Z is in his last year of college and is ready to take the NHL by storm. He comes across as the hot, cocky, bad boy Ice King to everyone he meets. Inside, he’s a mess. The past has wrapped itself around his throat and the noose tightens more every day. He’s not sure if he’s going to make it. Can he keep the pressures at bay or will he fall apart and lose it all?

Sugar wasn’t blessed with a perfect family growing up. She struggled every day. She’s in her last year at HSU and what she wants more than anything is to get into Vandy. Law school was always the plan but she’s been rejected and told maybe in the future. She needs a way to get in. To show those who have judged her and looked down upon her that she’s made it. She’s more than they ever could have dreamed she would be.

She needs him. He could be her ticket to making her dreams come true. He needs her, to keep others at bay so he can focus on his future. They don’t realize that their fake plan will become more than either ever imagined. She understands what he needs and she’s does it. He gets her quirks and supports her like no one else has. Together they step into murky waters and get wrapped up in each other.

Truths of the past come to light and a downward spiral begins. Old hurts become new and trust doesn’t extend very far. Happiness is driven away and heartache surrounds them both. A decision to fight for one another, to extend understanding to ghosts of the past and to truly open their hearts is the only way they will survive this heartache.

I can’t say enough about Ilsa and her understanding of creating characters that are perfectly flawed together. She has a fantastic capability of creating a story that draws us in so much that we can feel the ups and downs and the road that the characters must travel. It’s wonderful and it’s a phenomenal ride!

There’s a hitch in Z’s breath, and his eyes go straight to my lips. “Works for me.” “But just one. None of that fancy tongue work.” “Afraid of falling in love with me?” He grins. Well.
