Title: Calculated Risk
Author: Rachael Duncan
Genre: Contemporary Romance

I thought the ring on my finger would do the trick and keep men away. All I wanted was to save my heart from shattering--again. The truth is, I'm not married. The ring was just a ploy--a ploy to keep me safe, protected from pain.
But then Marcus Riley came along with his goofy pick-up lines, and he saw right through the facade. He knew the truth, and he wanted me. God help me, I wanted him too--in so many ways. But love is a risk, a painful, scary risk. One I'm too afraid to take.
Unless...
He's the one risk worth taking.

REVIEW:
Calculated Risk was a fairly quick and easy read for me. If you
are looking for a cute, fun read, with a little bit of suspense this is definitely
the book for you.
I love the carefree, hardworking, fun spirited personality
Lydia Kelley has but yet she is so guarded when it comes to the men in her
life. When she is with her girlfriends she is as fun as can be, letting loose
and just being herself. But yet when it comes to her job, she has proven to be
the best at her job.
“You’ll never find that special someone if you constantly keep yourself closed off.”
Every time Lydia goes out she wears a ring on her finger to
signify that she is taken to drive all the crazy men away. Her past has caused
her to put so many walls in place. At first you may think it is silly, the ring
anyway. When we hear on what happened to her, you can’t help but feel for her
and understand her reasoning. She is such a strong person for overcoming everything.
“There’s so much we don’t know each other, but I want to change that. Is it a risk? Yes, every relationship starts out that way. Take the risk with me, Lydia. The biggest ones often lead to the best rewards.”
Marcus Riley comes out of left field. He seems to like what he
sees in Lydia and will not budge. He sees right through that and pursues her
completely. I love how persistent Marcus becomes with Lydia not taking no for
an answer. At first I was a bit upset with how their relationship started. Not quite
the normal way of going about things, but it got the job done. He knew what he
wanted and Lydia did not want to hear him out. Little by little he begins to
break down each one of her walls until Lydia realizes that not every guy out
there is cut from the same cloth.
But when the past rearing back it could put them back to
square one again.
Can Marcus put Lydia’s pieces back together? Or will she
always have her walls up? How far will his patience go for Lydia? Can Lydia
love Marcus enough to give herself completely to him?
I love how Marcus is completely patient with Lydia and how he never gives
up on her no matter what. He is quite the catch for her. When Lydia goes all
in, she definitely goes all in. They seem to complete one another. And it doesn't help they have such a great physical connection. Not only does Lydia have Marcus to help her
with her issues, she has amazing friends to depend on.

I want to yell. I want to cuss. I want to hit and lash out at them in the most violent of ways, but I’m too broken. Because in the last few minutes, all of my dreams came crashing down. What I once thought was perfect was all a lie. A repulsive, cut you to your soul kind of lie.

Stalker: Caught ya. My brows furrow in confusion as I try to figure out what he’s talking about. After several seconds and still no clue, I text him back. Me: Caught me what? Stalker: Thinking about me. With a grin, I respond. Me: What makes you so sure I was thinking about you? Stalker: Because I was thinking of you.
