“It was always you.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald
Vi Keeland knocks it out the park with her newest release,The Summer Proposal. I have been reading her books since the very beginning and she seems to get so much better with each book she releases. Hands down, this new release is by far my favorite. I put my responsibilities off for a day just to get lost in the world of Max and Georgia. Their story stuck with me and I couldn’t get my mind off of them that I read it all over again. Vi Keeland does a fantastic job creating stories that just suck you in, where you fall in love with not just the characters but the story itself. She is able to transport you into their world and put you in a rollercoaster ride of emotions alongside them.
Sigh.. Max Yearwood.. swoon. Can we please all have our own Max? Right off the bat, I fell in love with him. He may be a big hockey player, but he has the biggest heart. Who gives his good luck charm to the girl he just met? Max does. He knew from the moment that he saw Georgia that there was something special about her. He walked up to her pretending to be date, until he got caught. But he couldn’t let that stop him from seeing her again. He took a chance. He’s so honest and upfront, always says what is on his mind. He will do anything for Georgia. I absolutely love the dynamics he has with his family.
Georgia is an independent business woman who built her business from her own apartment and grew it into something so much bigger. I love the fact that she is her own person and has her own “thing”. Her business concept was a great idea, loved the quotes. She has poured herself into her business for such a long time, she lost sight of other things. Aside from her best friend, Maggie, her life is her business. She is slowly realizing she needs to find her way and to start living for herself. Georgia does have a past that is tying her down a bit, but she is completely up front with Max about it.
Max is the right person to help Georgia cross things off her personal to do list. In a matter of days, he accomplishes more than she could ever imagine. I loved seeing Georgia loosen up a bit and to just enjoy life itself. She didn’t even know she was capable of letting go until Max came along and made things easy. They have that instant chemistry we always read about. I was able to feel it from the very beginning. Max and Georgia together just made sense. They were so natural with one another, like they both fit. They complimented each other really well. The summer full of fun was all they promised. When they finally make it to the bedroom, that chemistry turns into fireworks. Holy moley!
I became emotionally invested in this book. I laughed, I cried, I got mad, I swooned a lot. I loved Max and Georgia but I also loved the secondary characters. I’m sad for Otto, I really liked him. And Maggie… she is a hoot, everyone needs a friend like Maggie. Max and Georgia both have pasts and they will both be faced with difficult situations. They promised each other the summer. But what happens when their feelings are more than they bargained for? What happens when the pasts come back knocking on the present? Will they be able to move on with their lives or will they long for an extended summer?
