From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy standalone novel. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I’d never been able to forget—even though he so easily forgot about me—and call him. Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you’ve had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless, prank call. Instead, I went off on him—unloading thirteen years of pent-up emotions. I didn’t think he’d call me back. I certainly could never have anticipated the weeks of sexually tense phone conversations that followed as I got to know the man he’d become. Turned out, Landon had never really forgotten me, either. That special connection we had was still there. I opened up to him, but there were also things about me he didn’t know. And he had his own secrets. Over the countless hours we talked on the phone, I wondered what would happen if we actually saw each other. One night, I did something impulsive again. Only this time, I went to the airport and booked a ticket to California. We were about to find out if one phone call could bring two lost souls together or if my drunk dial really was all just a big mistake. A complete STANDALONE.

  Review:

I have to be honest, this book was not a huge favorite of mine and trust me I typically love all of Penelope's books. Don’t get me wrong I did enjoy the storyline, but as I was reading I did not get that feeling I usually get. The feeling where I instantly fall in love with it all. I did connect with the characters on some level but at some points while reading it felt a bit flat. By no means just because I did not like it will it mean that you won’t like it either.

Landon and Rana’s story began when they were much younger. Both from different upbringings but that didn’t bother them as they innocently became good friends. Little did Landon know Rana’s crush on him began at this time. Till one day, one decision would tear their friendship apart but not forever.

Many years later, they would reconnect all because of one drunken phone call. Rana thought nothing would come of it but it did the opposite. The one phone call changed their dynamic once again. I loved watching Landon and Rana get to know the adult version of one another. Landon is that sexy bad ass California guy and Rana is a beautiful hardworker trying to get by. I would have never predicted the way Landon acted towards Rana. He was very in like with her and did anything he can to make her laugh. When Landon was having a bad moment he would always ask Rana, “tell me something funny” and she would definitely deliver on it.

Both Landon and Rana have many mistakes and regrets from the past. I loved how he knew something was going on between the two of them so he was very open and honest with her about everything. That made me love him even more. He actually is that big softie on the inside. I loved watching the two of them make each other’s dark worlds brighter. It’s as if they were each other’s missing pieces. Rana on the other hand was not very forthcoming about her past. This made me mad at her at some parts because I was waiting for that shoe to drop.

Landon and Rana’s relationship was pretty much instalove for me, but you can definitely tell where they are heading. Even with miles dividing them, they try to make it work. They do have that instant connection with each other and just automatically pick up where they left off. Their sexual attraction is completely there without a doubt but Landon is waiting to wait until Rana is ready. When secrets do come out, they end up hurting people. But I did not see this one coming.

I loved Rana and her spirit. I love how independent she really is, not wanting to take a handout from anyone and trying to do things on her own. She is such a strong her person. And when you finally hear her story, you can’t help but feel for her. Rana has been trying to turn her life around while living with some of the regrets she has made. I loved watching Landon grow into the man he is. He has been through so much but yet is trying to make a better person of himself. I feel that Landon and Rana were truly meant for one another.
