About ASA:

Starting over in Denver with a whole new circle of friends and family, Asa Cross struggles with being the man he knows everyone wants him to be and the man he knows he really is. A leopard doesn’t it change its spots and Asa has always been a predator. He doesn’t want to hurt those who love and rely on him, especially one stunning arresting cop who suddenly seems to be interested in him for far more than his penchant for breaking the law. But letting go of old habits is hard, and it’s easy to hit bottom when it’s the place you know best.

Royal Hastings is quickly learning what the bottom looks like after a tragic situation at work threatens not only her career but her partner’s life. As a woman who has only ever had a few real friends she’s trying to muddle through her confusion and devastation all alone. Except she can’t stop thinking about the sexy southern bartender she locked up. Crushing on Asa is the last thing she needs but his allure is too strong to resist. His long criminal record can only hurt her already shaky career and chasing after a guy who has no respect for the law or himself can only end in heartbreak.

A longtime criminal and a cop together just seems so wrong . . . but for Asa and Royal, being wrong together is the only right choice to make.

EXCERPT:

I hear banging. I open my eyes to the continuing thump coming from the hallway.

“Oh, God. Yes!” screeches Ruby.

“I’m going to come,” a deep voice announces.

Bloody hell. I blink at the clock and see that’s it’s nearly two in the morning. What the hell is she doing? Or more appropriately, who is she doing?

“Fuck, Owen! Fuck, yes!”

Well, that answered my question. Jesus. Since when did she start making so much noise while having sex? I pull my pillow over my head and turn onto my stomach. My face is throbbing from where it was hit, but I choose to ignore it. If I think about how I got it, then I start to think about who gave it to me, and I’m not wasting any more of my time on him.

“Ruby,” Owen grunts. “Ruby.”

I scrunch my face up and bury my face into the mattress. This is really gross. I hear more knocking, but it doesn’t sound like it’s the wall this time. I pull the pillow from my head and toss it back onto the bed with a huff. I’m supposed to be getting up in two hours to go for my run.

Knock, knock.

I don’t believe it. Who is knocking on our apartment at this time of night?

I climb out of bed, smooth my white, silk nightie down and rub at my eyes as I yawn. Maybe it’s next door coming to complain about the noise? Oh, I hope so, I think as I pad barefoot across the floor towards the door. I’m thinking about how embarrassed Ruby would be and find myself smirking as I pull the door open.

I notice his sad, pale eyes and the weird expression on his face and my smirk instantly disappears. I fold my arms across my chest to cover up the fact that my nipples are poking through the silk fabric.

Noah stares into my eyes for a long time. Hundreds of conversations that we’ve had flutter through my memories, swamping me with images. I remember the first time he spoke to me and how immature and childish I was. I remember how his girlfriend had freaked out when she’d discovered us in his house. I remember the way I loved him, but then I remember how distant we are from each other right now and sigh.

“What do you want, Noah?”

He rubs at his temple and leans his forearm against the doorframe above his head. “I’ve sobered up,” he tells me.

I fake-smile at him. “That’s great. Thanks for knocking on my door at two in the morning to tell me that.”

He shakes his head and closes his eyes. “I’ve come to say sorry,” he tells me.

I stare at him, hating myself for wanting to pull him into me so I can beg for his forgiveness.

“So say it,” I whisper.

He stops looking at the floor and locks his eyes onto mine. “I’m sorry,” he says sincerely.
“I’m sorry I came to your apartment when I was drunk, and I’m sorry that you got hurt. It won’t happen again.”

I want to ask him if he’s sorry for saying he loved me, but I bite my tongue.

“Oh, fuck,” Ruby sniggers. She starts to pant and laugh at the same time. “Put it back in, put it back in.”

Erm, awkward. I look back up at Noah, who has suddenly found the dark blue carpet interesting. I can see the corner of his mouth pulling up.

“It’s Ruby,” I tell him.

“Yeah, I figured it wasn’t you,” he says.

“And Owen,” I continue. “He keeps telling her that he’s going to come.”

Noah smiles. “Yeah, apparently he sort of does that.”

“Does he apologise for doing it afterwards too?”

“I don’t know,” he says, nodding towards her bedroom door. “I’m guessing we’re about to find out.”

Eww.

“Oh, God, I’m going to come,” groans Owen. Then he makes a weird noise that sounds like a constipated dog straining to empty his bowels.

I scowl at Noah, who belly laughs really loud.

“Shh,” I whisper. “You’ll wake my neighbours.”

They’ll wake your neighbours,” he says, laughing. “What the hell was he doing in there?”

There is no way I’m putting up with that noise every night. “You’d better hope he likes one-night stands,” I tell him.

“Why, is she like you?” he asks quickly.

And that’s all it takes for the atmosphere to turn to ice again. He stares as if he’s reading me for a few seconds and then clears his face of any emotion. He’s back to being the Noah who doesn’t give a shit.

“I think you’d better go,” I say softly.

He takes a deep breath and nods. “Yeah, I probably should.”

He says it like he regrets that we had a normal conversation.

REVIEW:

A lot of times when authors write the same story in a different characters POV, the stories seem very redundant and they lose my attention.  With Enforce, that was not the case.  Yes, this is the story of Elite told in the guys POV, but to see what the guys were feeling opened my eyes to an entirely different story.  When I read Elite, I hated Nixon. I mean I loathed him.  I could not get past all of the mean things he did to Trace.  Yes, there is hazing when they first arrive at school, however I could not wrap my head around why Nixon did the things he did to Trace.  He did a ton of cruel things to her prior to even putting the puzzle pieces together when he realized that she was his Bella from his past.

Once Nixon knew the real identity of Trace, he vows to protect her and keep her safe. While reading Enforce I was able to see the struggles that Nixon was going through.  Yes, he was an ass.  Yes, he pushed Trace.  He needed to protect her, he promised to protect her, he also promised to stay away from her.  If people realized that Trace was important to Nixon, she had a bigger target on her back. One bigger than just her true identity.

We not only got Nixon's POV in Enforce, we got a glimpse at Tex, Phoenix and Chases' thoughts.  I didn't think it was possible for me to love Chase more than I already did.  Chase wears his heart on his sleeve and wants nothing but the best for Trace.  Chase doesn't think Nixon can provide that, but he can provide that to Trace.  Seeing how much love Chase has for Trace broke my heart because in reality, Nixon has always had her heart.  Whether Trace wanted to admit or not.  It has always been Nixon.

Seeing the struggles that Phoenix went through was heartbreaking.  I truly believe is has a good sole, he is just lost.  His father is a monster, and somewhere along the lines he lost himself.  I know what the outcome is since I have read all of the books in the series, but seeing him hit rock bottom and to feel all of the hatred that he has inside, was brutal.

Now we have Tex, happy go lucky Tex.  He is hysterical, and I can always count on him to make me laugh.  No matter how hard a situation is, Tex always made it lighter.  It was nice to see how Mo and Tex's friendship grew into a love.  Yes, in Elite, we got to see the over protective brother not too pleased with his best friend hooking up with his sister.  Nixon knows that Tex would never intentionally hurt Mo and if anyone else was to lay their life down to protect sister, it would be Tex.

Enforce was a book that I devoured in one sitting.  I could not put it down.  I loved seeing the guys POV and what was going through their heads.  It made me understand why they did what they did, and after I closed the book, my feelings toward Nixon were completely different.  I didn't hate him.  I didn't think he was a douche.  Kudos to Rachel.  You have another Nixon fan.  Rachel did an amazing job giving his the guys POV without just reiterating the storyline.

Great job Rachel !!!!!

EXCERPTS:

Chase

I grabbed the girl’s arm and practically dragged her down the hall. The rest of the students followed because, hey, who doesn’t like a free show? Hell, it wasn’t like I was going to hurt the girl. I didn’t hit girls. That wasn’t my specialty. I would never hit a girl unless I had no choice, my life or hers.

“So…” I gently pushed her away. “…what’s your name?”

“B-Brit.” She wrapped her arms around her stomach.
“How old are you, Brit?”

“Twenty.”

“Major?” I sighed, shoving my hands in my pockets while it went deathly silent around me.

Her blue eyes flickered with uncertainty; she tucked a piece of red hair behind her shoulder.
“Business.”

“Father’s name?”

People whistled.

She pressed her lips together.

“Father’s name? Don’t make me ask again, Brit.”

“Arnold.”

“Ah…” I snapped my fingers. “Ben Arnold, Independent. Was elected into the House of Representatives a few years back. Loves to golf, has a dog named… Henry and a goldfish named Stu. Cheated on his wife of twenty years with a stripper and was caught embezzling money from the State of Iowa but wasn’t penalized or taken to prison. Good ol’ Ben.” I chuckled. “Loves his little girl. I mean, he really does. After all, that was his plea, “Don’t do this to my family.” I sighed. “It’s just too bad.”

“Wh-what?” Brit gasped, tears streaming down her face. “What do you mean?”

“Prison… is not for the faint of heart.” I sighed. “Do you understand what I’m saying to you?”
Brit shook her head.

I pulled out my cell and dangled it in front of her face. “One phone call from me and your father will be behind bars so fast you won’t even get to say goodbye. One phone call, Brit, and I suck every possible future from your pathetic life. You’ll be lucky to be working as a prostitute once I’m finished with you. Because let’s face it, even prostitutes need to have some class, am I right?”

People around me started whispering.

“So here’s what’s going to happen…” I cleared my throat and approached her until she could feel the heat from my body. “You talk to Trace again? I make that phone call. You talk about her, and I hear about it from one of your ugly friends? I make the phone call. Daddy goes to prison, all the family money gets taken, and, just because I love making people suffer that much, I tell the freaking world about your mother’s little… problem. Got me?”

Her lips trembled as tears cascaded down her puffy cheeks.

“Great.” I smiled and turned. “Anyone else want to tempt fate today, or are we good?”

Nobody spoke.

“Awesome. Then go back to class, make good choices, don’t do drugs, and— Go Eagles!”
I sent Nixon a quick text to let him know the situation had been dealt with, though I was kind of irritated at him. He’d been the hero while I’d had to take care of the dirty work. It was what I did, but for the first time… ever, I wanted to be Nixon. I wanted to be the guy who took care of business, not the second-in-command.
