REVIEW:

We all wanted to know a little more about Orlanda (Lando), Remy's boyfriend. We were given brief glimpses of him in the Marked Men Series. I know I wanted to know more. I wanted Lando to have a happily ever after after losing the love of his life Remy, which we all know was Rule's twin brother.

We say how his death effected the Archer boys, but we never got to see how if affected the one closest to him. The man that blamed himself for his death. The man that couldn't mourn the lost of his lover openly because Remy never told anyone that he was gay, besides his best friend Shaw.

So when Jay announced that she was releases Lando's story, I did leave a little squeal. In the book Asa, we were introduced to Dom, who was Royal's partner that was injured in the line of duty. Dom's injury was the beginning of Royal's downward spiral. Royal was living with the guilt of not being there for Dom when he needed her most. Dom obviously knew it wasn't her fault. But Dom was struggling with demons of his own. All he knew in life was to protect and love his mother, two sisters and his best friend and partner, Royal. All he knew was how to be a cop. So when his career is on the line due to his injury, he has one option. Find the best damn therapist there is that will help him rehabilitate and get his gun and shield back.

In walks, Lando. A favor was called in to get Lando to see Dom.  The moment Dom walks into Lando's office, sparks fly. Both of them are immediately attracted to each other.  Dom is straight forward and says what's on his mind. Poor Lando, needs to keep his relationship professional because he is his patient. But what do you do when your body feels something toward someone that it hasn't felt in a very long time? Your heart races when you are around this man. It's been years that Lando has felt anything When Remy died, a part of him died along with him.

Lando protects his heart. He lets fear lead his life when it comes to loving someone again for fear of losing them. So what will he do when the man he begins to fall for is a cop, who risks his life every time he walks out the door. Will Dom let Lando push him away? Will Lando continue to let fear run his life? Will Lando be able to open his heart to love again? Will love level both Lando and Dom? What will the two of them do when the walls that they built begin to crumble?

Leveled was a great way to tie up loss ends that we had for Lando. We got to know him better and see how Remy's death crushed him. Sometimes the love we have for someone, is the same love that will bring us close to someone else.  I loved how we got to see the Archer boys in this novella as well. Leveled was a great way to bring closure to all of the people whose lives were effected by the death of Remy. All I can say is, Remy can rest in peace knowing that all the people he loved in life, got their happily ever afters. I just with he could have been there to experience it with them, rather than in spirit that lives within all of them.

This review was prepared by Heather. An ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review.

EXCERPT:

He reached out and shut the medical file in front of him and leaned back in his chair. His eyebrows arched up, and he laced his fingers together and put his index fingers under his chin.

“What exactly are you after, Mr. Voss?” His voice was smooth and modulated. I was a disaster, a bundle of nerves and anxiety, and this dude was acting like we were talking about the weather, not my entire life and everything I had ever worked my ass off for.

Defiantly I spread my legs apart and slumped back in the chair across from him, making it a point to affect a posture that was as casual as his was professional. I had on a faded DPD T-shirt and a pair of jeans with a hole in the knee, and both were a little baggy since I’d lost some of my bulk being laid up in the hospital after the accident. If the guy across from me was a cherry-red Ferrari, then I was a rusted-out and battered John Deere tractor in comparison.

“I want my life back, Mr. Frederick. I want to be able to move the way I used to. I want to pass the department physical so I can go back on patrol. I want to be able to walk without needing a crutch or a cane. I want to be the way I was before I got hurt.” I was asking for the impossible and I knew it. “And please call me Dom.”

He dipped his chin down a little, and the edge of his mouth tilted up in a slight grin. Damn the man was good-looking. I blew out a breath and lifted up my hands to run them over the top of my shorn hair. I was hanging on to my sanity by a thread and my unexpected reaction to the guy that I was hanging every hope I had left on wasn’t helping matters.

“All right, Dom. You can call me Lando. That’s what my friends call me.”

I felt one of my eyebrows shoot up. “Are we going to be friends?”

Don’t miss a Sneak Peek of BUILT, the first full-length novel in the Saints of Denver Series, in the back of LEVELED!

About LEVELED:

We all need a hero...let the Saints of Denver begin. Orlando Frederick knows what it is to be leveled by pain. Instead of focusing on his own, he’s made it his mission to help others: sports stars, wounded war vets, survivors of all kinds. But when Dom, a rugged, damaged, sinfully attractive cop makes his way into Lando’s physical therapy practice, he might be the biggest challenge yet. Lando loved one stubborn man before and barely survived the fallout. He’s not sure if he can do it again. Dominic Voss is a protector. The police badge he wears is not only his job, it’s his identity, so when he’s sidelined because of an injury, the only thing he cares about is getting back on the force. He expects Lando to mend his body, he just doesn’t realize the trainer will also have him working towards a hell of a lot more. As attraction simmers and flares, Dom sees that Lando needs repair of his own...if only the man will let him close enough to mend what's broken.

Can you handle the speed at 300 MPH?

She’s had to leave the baby with me a few times and it was a total disaster each and every time. I had to be rescued by Mal or dad all times due to a nonstop cry. Yeah, she doesn’t like me.
I would feed her, burp her, change her, and she would still cry nonstop as if I was a monster and she hated me. It would be the first female who didn’t like me. In all seriousness though, it kinda pissed me off. I had never been unable to master anything I had put my mind to. Damn it this was gonna be no different.
I continued walking her back and forth and then out the front of the motor coach trying everything and anything to get her settled. Dad and Mal had gone out for dinner to give Mallory a break so I knew there would be no one to rescue me.
I sat under the makeshift porch and swayed her back and forth just like Mal would do.
Samantha followed me with her eyes looking into mine studying me. I was already in awe of her but that was the very moment that I fell in love with her.
“You know what I think I am going to call you from now on?”
I paused waiting for an answer. No, dumbass, she isn’t going to answer you.
“Blue. I am going to call you Blue.” I smirked.
“Do you want to know why I am going to call you that?”
I waited again continuing to sway her just slightly while lightly patting her bottom and hearing the sound of the cushioned diaper as my hand met it.
“I'll tell you… you have always screamed bloody murder every time I have held you since the very first time in the hospital 6 months ago. You would turn blue… the blue of the annoying dog on Blue’s Clues that you love so much. So… that is your name to me for now on.”
I slowly sat down in the chair that had been calling my name and held her as she slept in my arms peacefully. So this is what it felt like.
She changed something in me that very moment, as I watched her feeling safe in my arms. I had seen Mallory transform into a mother that the both of us never had in only a short six months. Here this little life was making me feel something I had never felt for another by not speaking a word. She was special.
I currently reside outside of Austin, Texas. I'm a mother of 2 amazing kiddos and married to my gorgeous soulmate for almost 20 years. I have a full time job in the medical field but would rather be spending my time writing! I love to spend my free time reading, being outside and playing with my family and 4 fur babies. I started to write at the instinct of "hey maybe I can do that!" and haven't stopped since. I have enjoyed every step of the journey. I am blessed to have very supportive friends and family that make my life worth living!
