☆✮ Synopsis

Death.

For some, it’s simply one of life’s certainties, nothing more. For others, it’s merely a fleeting thought, one often overshadowed by the reckless delusion that they have been blessed with the gift of immortality.

For Aubrey Miller, death is the definition of her very existence. Overcome with the guilt resulting from the loss of her beloved family, she alters her appearance from the once beautiful, blonde-haired, blue-eyed little girl to that of one shrouded in complete darkness, enveloping herself in her own unbreakable fortress of solitude as a form of protection for others.

As she enters her first year of college, her goal is simple: Earn a degree with the least amount of social interaction as possible. What she never anticipates is the formation of very unlikely relationships with two people who will change her life in ways she never believed possible: Quinn Matthews, the boisterous former pageant queen, and Kaeleb McMadden, a childhood friend from her past who never really let her go.

Over the years, as their connections intertwine and grow, a seemingly indestructible bond is formed between the three…

But when death painfully reemerges, Aubrey is lost once again, burying herself deeper than ever before inside the familiar fortification of her fears.

Will the refuge of friendship, the solidarity of life-long bonds, and the power of unconditional love be enough to do the impossible?

Will they be enough to finally bring about…

The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller?

☆ REVIEW

☆ Excerpt
“Thank you so much, Quinn. This day has been…unbelievable. And I owe it all to you. You have no idea.” My voice trembles a bit with the admission, because she really has no idea what she’s done for me today.
I feel normal.
A normal girl, about to have a normal birthday celebration with her friends, in a normal (albeit spectacular) dress, with normal hair and make-up.
The only thing that’s missing is a pair of normal shoes.
“Shoes! I need shoes!” I exclaim.
“No, you don’t.” Quinn giggles and reaches for the knob of my bedroom door.
“What? Why wouldn’t I need shoes?”
That makes no sense.
She’s drunker than I thought.
That’s it, I’m officially hiding the champagne.
“You’ll see,” she says just as there’s a knock at the front door.
She winks. “Trust me. Just, stay in here. Don’t come out until someone comes to get you.”
After Quinn quietly shuts the door behind her, I remain seated. As the sounds of Kaeleb’s murmur filters into my room, a nervous excitement flitters through my belly and spreads into my chest. My joy takes flight and I breathe in deeply, contentment pumping enthusiastically with each thrumming heartbeat.
Damn, it feels good to be alive.
I don’t have to wait for long. After a very loud squeal from Quinn in the other room, there’s a knock at my door. My pulse kicks up and I rise from the bed, smoothing out my dress. With a glance in the mirror, I pluck a couple of sections of my new hair with my fingers and set them back into place. “Come in,” I remark, turning in the direction of the door.
The handle turns and as Kaeleb pokes his head around the corner, his eyes find mine. His eyebrows rise as his mouth falls slightly open, and he breaks my gaze as his focus shifts to take in my hair, my exposed neck and the line of my dress. He holds his stare briefly at the crystalline sash lining my waist, and then slowly drifts down to my smoothly-shaven legs and perfectly painted toenails. The left side of his mouth quirks up as he clears his throat, frozen in place. He tears his scrutiny away from my feet to fully step into the room, then turns away from me to shut the door.
I take advantage of the 1.5 seconds his back is turned, and survey him from head to toe. His light-blue button-up is folded to his elbows, displaying the prominence of the flexed muscles along his forearms. As he places both palms on the door and leans into them, his shirt rides up enough for me to see the designs on the back pockets of his dark jeans. They hug his ass perfectly, and for the first time in my life, I want to slide my hands right into those pockets just to feel the hardness of his toned body.
My fingers itch with the need to touch him, but I maintain control while Kaeleb braces against the door, inhaling and exhaling deeply. He stays planted there for a few more seconds until I suddenly begin to feel self-conscious. I run my hands over my hair and dress to make sure everything is as it should be.
Just as I start to ask him if he’s all right, he whips around with a full smile on his face. A few long strides later, and he’s standing right in front of me. Raising both hands, he traces the tips of his fingers along the sides of my cheeks, leaving a scorching trail as they run down my neck and thread themselves into the hair at my nape. With his thumbs underneath my chin, he tilts my head back and looks me directly in the eyes.
“You look amazing, Sunshine. Truly breathtaking.” His head dips slightly and he runs his lips tentatively along mine, the movement so sensual I can’t keep my hands off of him any longer. Fisting his shirt in my hands, I pull him into me and press my mouth hard against his, the need to taste him overriding my caution. A whimper rises in my throat and escapes into his mouth as his tongue slides in between my lips, slowly and deliberately, taking his time to stroke and caress mine. His hold tightens as his fingers curl deeper into my hair, the tinge of pain sending shockwaves of pleasure coursing through my body until they land right in between my legs, the throbbing sensation growing with each strike.
After another gentle sweep of his tongue, he lessens the kiss and pulls back slightly. His lips brush against mine before they slide over to the corner of my mouth, up along my cheek, and then rest them against my ear as he breathes, “Happy birthday. The dress is phenomenal.”

Wind Raven by Regan Walker ~ Review

SYNOPSIS:

Ordered by the Prince Regent into the Caribbean, English sea captain and former privateer Jean Nicholas Powell has no time for women onboard the Wind Raven, especially not Tara McConnell. The impudent American forced herself aboard, and so she’ll get more than she bargained for: Instead of a direct sail to Baltimore, she’ll join their quest to investigate a rampaging pirate, the infamous Roberto Cofresi. But the hoyden thinks she can crew with his men, and though he bans her from the rigging, Nick is captivated watching her lithe, luscious movements on deck. Facing high seas, storms, cutthroats and the endless unknown, he must protect his ship, his passenger, his crew. But on this voyage, with this woman, there is a greater danger: to his heart.

REVIEW:

Wind Raven can be read as a standalone book. The story revolves around Tara, who’s been in London with her aunt to learn how to become a lady. Upon finding out that her father is ill back home in Baltimore, she embarks on the voyage back home. Her aunt tries one final time at matchmaking, unbeknownst to the parties involved.

Nicholas, the son of a wealthy shipping family, is captain of the ship Tara books passage on to return home to her ailing father. He’s survived war only to be enlisted to help Prinny ward off the Carribean pirate Confresì. The captain wasn’t expecting a passenger let alone a woman, and a woman who could teach a few sailors a thing or two. Tara befuddles him at every turn. She ignores most of what he tells her to do, which is mainly act like a lady and stay off the deck of his ship.

Tara loves to sail. She loves everything about being on a ship, except perhaps the lack of a hot bath. As much as the overbearing captain grates on her nerves, she still finds herself attracted to the man. And, Nicholas knows it. He isn’t immune to the lovely young hoyden on his ship, but he knows she’s the type you marry. The captain doesn’t have plans to marry, so resolves to stay far away from Tara, no matter how much she intrigues him or how much he likes looking at her in britches.

Their journey to Baltimore takes a circuitous route that extends there time together through a series of misfortunes. When it comes time to fight for Tara, Nicholas realizes he does care for her and he wants to keep her with him. He finally decides he’s found the perfect woman to make his wife. Unfortunately for an educated man, he isn’t very good with words and makes a muddle of the whole thing.

Wind Raven is an interesting sea voyage filled with all the things that make a good regency romance. Tara isn’t a simpering female, but a strong young woman trying to live a happy life while making those she loves proud of her. The characters are balanced and complement each other. A sweet regency read to the end.

AUTHOR BIO:
As a child Regan Walker loved to write stories, particularly about adventure-loving girls, but by the time she got to college more serious pursuits took priority. One of her professors thought her suited to the profession of law, and Regan realized it would be better to be a hammer than a nail. Years of serving clients in private practice and several stints in high levels of government gave her a love of international travel and a feel for the demands of the “Crown” on its subjects. Hence her romance novels often involve a demanding Prince Regent who thinks of his subjects as his private talent pool. - See more at: http://boroughspublishinggroup.com/authors/regan-walker#sthash.VGWphvvH.dpuf

EXCERPT:

“A fine fix we’re in,” Tara said, looking first at the captain and then at the night sky. The stars began to show themselves in the darkening canvas above, giving her the sense she stood on a precipice at an auspicious moment in time. It had only been a short while ago she had gained the insight she had now about the two of them. She should have realized the truth long ago.

“What do you mean?” he asked, coming up behind her, so close she could feel the heat of his chest. His warmth had always drawn her, and it was pulling her to him now like a strong undertow.

“Each of us withheld from the other the one thing we wanted,” she remarked, staring into the night sky.

“And what would that be?” He put his hands on her arms, drawing her back against his chest. She shivered with his touch but allowed it, while fighting the urge to turn and fall into his arms.

“You wanted my body and, fool that I am, I wanted your heart.”

He spun her around so fast her vision blurred. “My heart? You wanted my heart?”

“Yes, but I cannot seem to touch it.” His eyes carried a look of astonishment. “Well, you can keep it,” she said emphatically. “I don’t want it anymore. And you shall never have me!”

He stared at her for only a moment. “Oh, yes, I will.” As if she had defied one of his many orders and he was having none of it, he brought his mouth down on hers in a kiss that was claiming. One of his hands closed on her nape and his other arm wrapped tightly around her waist, holding her to him, trapping her with his powerful strength.

Caston’s true past comes to light, bringing his present crashing down around him. In a life full of betrayal, how will Caston cope when the truth is revealed? Can Sabrina be the constant Caston needs to help him make the life changing decisions he needs to in order to move on?

When the web of lies is torn apart, who will be left standing? Will the right person take the fall?

Follow Caston and Sabrina through the aftermath and find out what happens when they each vow I Won’t Give Up on You.

*PLEASE NOTE* This book is for 18 years and older. This book contains sexual encounters and graphic language that some readers may find objectionable. Contains graphic material that is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18.

With the way Have I Told You ended, I wasn't quite sure what to expect.  We were literally left hanging. Caston and Sabrina fell in love rather quick in Have I Told You.  Caston has a past, one that will come back to haunt him and cause trouble for he and Sabrina.  Sabrina becomes a target and when she is injured, it rocks Caston's world. In I Won't Give Up On You, Sabrina struggles with the news that she may never dance again because of her injury.  Caston is always there to guide her and support her along her road to recovery.  He vows to never give up on her.  Sabrina is struggling with the reality that she may never dance along with self esteem issues she has now developed due to the scar that she now hows cause of her injury.

In I Won't Give Up On You, you get more of the background story of what happened to Sabrina's parents, and we find out the truth in who was behind the attack on Sabrina. Can Sabrina and Caston's love get them through this? Is the foundation of their relationship strong enough to survive this?  Will Sabrina and Caston have a future together?  Will Sabrina wall down the aisle and become Mrs. Black?  There are a few that will stop at nothing to keep the two of them apart?  Will they succeed?  Will they give up on each other, or will all of these obstacles make their love stronger?

I have to say that I enjoyed the first book in this series more.  I am not saying that I did not like I Won't Give Up On You but at times I felt the book was a little slow.  I found it interesting that the "mystery man", he shall remain nameless was part of the scheme that hurt Sabrina.  I have to say, that totally threw me for a loop, as I did not see that coming.  I would recommend this series to anyone that is looking for a quick read.

This review is by Heather.  I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am a mommy of two, wife to an amazing man, and full time employee. Life is crazy and busy!  I started writing again for a group of women I met last year. They brought back the passion for writing I haven’t seen since high school. Starting this process was tedious and nerve-wracking, but my amazing ladies and my fabulous husband have inspired me to take my love for writing to the next step.

I reach around and clasp my arms around his neck as I lean over and kiss his cheek.  Caston grabs my arms and quickly stands up with me attached on his back.  Letting out a screech, I quickly wrap my legs around his waist.  “Caston!  Put me down.  What are you doing?  Caston!”
Without a word he carries me into the bathroom over to our large soaking tub and bends over to start the water.  I use my feet to tease his cock, trying to get him to set me down.
“Bre, that isn’t going to work.”
“Baby, please, put me down.”
Caston continues to walk around the bathroom, collecting things for the bath.  When the tub is almost full he adds a little bubble bath that instantly starts to foam and sends the aromatic scents of lavender and vanilla through the air.
Finally seeming satisfied, he walks over to the double sinks, setting me down, so I’m sitting on the counter.  He turns around in my arms and takes my mouth in a kiss that sends shivers throughout my whole body.  I reach up, sliding my hands through his hair.  Enjoying the moans we’re humming into each other’s mouths.  He pulls away breathless.  The lustful look in his eyes renders me speechless.

NEW SERIES !!!!!! Better When He's Bad by Jay Crownover

So you’ve met Rule, Jet, Rome, and soon Nash! But there’s a new boy in town, along with a new series, by Jay Crownover. Better When He’s Bad (Welcome to the Point #1) is a new adult novel scheduled for publication on June 17, 2014, by William Morrow, an imprint of Harper Collins Publishing. This is how Jay describes her new novel/series:

“It’s dark and dangerous and set in a fictitious underworld/bad part of town. The men in all of the books are way more along the line of being anti-heros than true leading men. I guess the easiest way to sum them up is by saying the books are all about the choices these characters have to make and the outcomes and results of those decisions. Bax’s book is all about having to make the hard choices and what becomes of him and his lady in doing so. They are super fun, very atmospheric and I think really what writing a bad boy should be like if you’re going to do it :)”

Look in the back of Nash’s book to find the first chapter of “Better When He’s Bad.”

Synopsis

Welcome to the Point There’s a difference between a bad boy and a boy who’s bad . . . meet Shane Baxter. Sexy, dark, and dangerous, Bax isn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks, he is the wrong side of the tracks. A criminal, a thug, and a brawler, he’s the master of bad choices, until one such choice landed him in prison for five years. Now Bax is out and looking for answers, and he doesn’t care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get them. But there’s a new player in the game, and she’s much too innocent, much too soft…and standing directly in his way. Dovie Pryce knows all about living a hard life and the tough choices that come with it. She’s always tried to be good, tried to help others, and tried not to let the darkness pull her down. But the streets are fighting back, things have gone from bad to worse, and the only person who can help her is the scariest, sexiest, most complicated ex-con The Point has ever produced. Bax terrifies her, but it doesn’t take Dovie long to realize that some boys are just better when they’re bad.

About the Author

I’m supposed to share interesting details about myself so that my readers get to know me so here we go in no particular order: I’m an natural redhead even though I haven’t seen my real hair color in years, I’m a big fan of tattoos and have a half sleeve on either arm and various other pieces all over the place, I’ve been in the bar industry since I was in college and it has always offered interesting insight into how men and women interact with each other, I have 3 dogs that are all crazy, I live in Colorado and love the snow, I love music and in all reality wish I could be a rock star not a writer or a bartender but I have zero talent so there is that. I love to write, love to read and all I’m interested in is a good story with interesting characters that make the reader feel something.
